An Observation About Gandy Rails.

Gandys

I play on Gandys in my league and the rails do react different than GC's. I assume this is because the rails are old and need replacement but they do end up around an inch short compared to a new GC.

Lifespan

The lifespan on rubber parts is 7 years. After that, rubber deteriotes. Which is why a mechanic will tell you to replace all rubber hoses and gaskets on you r 7 year old car.

I really don't know... I have done more GC's and Valleys than anything...

I was just relaying what I have been taught, by a well respected custom table buider/repairman
What, did he say, was the difference in height? Just curious.

I might be wrong..but this what I think I know..

Gandy was HQ'd in Macon Ga (my hometown also home to Silver Cup).. the had their store located in the downtown area..close to the river. In 1996 (? or so ) we got flooded..BIG TIME...the whole area was washed under 15 ft of dirty Olcumuggee river water. as I remember Gandy was whipped out..the entire stock was destroyed.. and the firm went under.

saying that to say this

If you are playing on Gandy tables with Gandy rubber......well you are playing on sime mighty old rubber...

You are correct in that Gandy tables kick differently. This is do to the rubber being real lively. It is like playing on a 3 cushion table the way the rubber is so active. I have owned one for 4 years now and when i go to my local pool room i still have trouble adjusting my game. A shot that hit sometimes 3/4 of a diamond away from a corner pocket on a Kim Steel or Gold Crown table will still go in but on a gandy it can hit an 1/8 of a diamond from the corner and you can for get about it going in. It is nerve racking most of the time. I can shoot lights out on my Gandy from time to time and go to my local and can't make 3 balls in a row. Bank are really difficult to adjust to because you have to be dead in the pocket on a Gandy where as you get a friendly roll on a GC or Kim Steel. My kicks are as much as a diamond off on other tables. Long story short I should have bought a Diamond Table.
