I started playing in Sept. 2008, and its now Nov 2011. I've been playing for 3 years, and I'm confident I'm an average C player on a 9ft table (my instructor Joe Tucker has helped tremendously in the last 4 months).

Just curious for the sake of hearing my own voice: how many hours of practice until I reach B speed?
 
It is not necessary hours....

Practice does not make perfect, only perfect practice makes perfect.

Quality over quanity.

Gotcha, Scott, and thanks. I'll start using that format.

I'm heading to my APPA (Arkansas Pool Players Association) state tournament this weekend to play in the B-class.

If I do well enough (heck, even if I don't), I'm going to hit the A-class and Master's class tournaments in a few weeks.

Wish me luck.......

Impossible to say, it depends on how you go about practicing in the coming months and years. It also depends on what is holding you back, shot making, safety play etc. and how you choose to approach it. That said, as long as you keep fine tuning your fundamentals you'll improve steadily. Just avoid the pitfall of thinking your mechanics are good enough once you have accomplished some of your goals. Even if/when you get to A level territory, they could always be improved.

Gosh, if you are that close, come on into Pool School. Dallas is just a short trip.

I think I'm about 9 hours or so from Dallas. Not too crazy of a distance. I'm trying to convince my best friend to join me, so that we can benefit from that partner discount you've mentioned in the past.

With that said.....I just discovered that I play every week in Mountain Home, Arkansas.....with Bob Nunley, who was one of your past instructors. He's shown me a few things, but we've not been able to really nail down some time to work on things together.

I also had lunch this weekend and shot with Lynn Smith....who is President of our state league, the APPA. I mentioned your school and he said you were acquaintances.

Everyone raves about Pool School. It's just a matter of getting past the holidays and squirreling away a little bit of cash.

Are there certain times of year that you travel and won't be in Dallas? My goal is come down there by April.

Btw, I've heard thru the grapevine that once you leave Pool School....it's best to avoid competition for a few weeks to a month to basically work only on drills? Kinda let things burn in, so to speak. What's the SOP on this?

If so, my state league ends in early May. I might head down there then, since I won't have to worry about any league tournaments till the following August.

Bad habits want to stay around for a long time. Most students take a couple of weeks of competition off, just to work on the new things.

Call me when the both of you are ready to attend.
