I have recently been thinking about putting a thin layer of leather over the phenolic tip of my break cue. I feel that it should give more control of the cue ball, but still allow for a powerful break. What do you guys think? Anyone tried this idea.

If so, what was the attachment method?
 
Or better yet...do as I do occasionally and put a 5/16 phen core down through the middle of a hard leather tip like a SuperPro and thread the phen into the ferrule. Then after its chalked it looks like a standard layered tip. Real sporty. :D

Yeah, real sporty, but I am no cuemaker, and do not have the knowledge and/or tools to perform that kind of trickery:p
 
Done that. Simply flatten the phenolic and put a tip on it and then shave the tip down to it's last layer. You will lose a little jumpability but not much. The break will feel slightly softer. And you will be able to spin the ball more. I used a water buffalo tip. Currently I use a cue with a graphite tip/ferrule and it works great.
 
go with a white diamond, they have the hardness of phonelic and hold chalk almost as well as leather and allow spin to be added.

Yea, I did it (glue) and the leather tore on the first break. I thought it was a brilliant idea too. :) :)

White Diamonds are great hitting tips, they really smash the balls.........

But you better have a lot of glue on hand because they pop off about every fifth break. :rolleyes: :rolleyes:
 
i've had a white diamond on my break cue for 2 months and about 100 breaks without issue. only about a week on the one on my jumper but still no issues on it either. maybe its the installer? *shrug*
