another case thread..different question though..if you won't own a justis or a jb..

Yes, they are padded tubes. The shafts & butts can go in either way so there is a little bit of movement but its minimal and the padding is fairly thick. I prefer my shafts to go tip up to keep the bluing of the shaft down. The bottom of the case appears to have foam with a strip of leather on top. The top of the case has a thick piece of soft lambs wool if I recall correctly.

Thanks...good info. Tip to case Mfgrs...show website pics of the inside, please...not everybody does this.

I would say Whitten reply really fast to emails (compared to Murnak or JB for example) and meet their deadlines. They make a nice, well constructed, case. I have a 1x2 whitten and I would guess their light versions are even better.

If you won't buy a case from jb or justis, who would you buy one from?
Regardless of what happens on the forum, nothing would stop me from wanting to purchase from Jack or John.

That being said, Whitten and Murnak would be my next choices for "custom."

If I wanted to buy a case "off the shelf," I'd visit Michael Hoang and get an Omega.

But honestly, we're in a spoiled position these days to have such a great range of choices.

I would get a Whitten even if I could buy a Justis or JB. Why? I don't like the "just stepped out of a cowboy bar" studded leather look. It just seems tacky to me.

Though both can and have made the "studded leather look," both do make cases far removed from that look, IMO.

The question is, what is your primary use? Is it for storage or for taking around with you?

Have you ever owned a 4 X 8? They are really heavy when full and hard on the leather straps and your shoulder. Why do you need a 4 x 8? What do you carry with you?

For playing, I have a 2 X 4 Justis with a pocket and it has everything I need. Cue with two shafts, break cue with 1 shaft, jump shaft and pocket for jump cue handle.

Then I have storage cases at home, mostly 12X 24's. For inexpensive storage, I really favor the Porper cases. They are durable enough, very affordable, light, come in a variety of configurations, and offer decent protection around the house. Also, they stack well or stand on end - so if you add to your cues they'll take up less space.

For my carrying case, if I couldn't have a Justis and wouldn't buy a JB, I would definitely go for a Swift. He hads a couple of styles I like and the cases are very durable and well priced.

Chris...

I don't need a 4x8, but I'm used to a 3x7 instroke and it doesn't bug me with it being heavy. I don't travel a bunch with the cues, usually just a short walk to and from the truck. Going to keep the instroke, which isn't overly heavy with just two cues in it. I would like to be able to store all my cues in one case in the summer when I don't play much. And when I go over to bnalls, and he wants to try out everything, or I want to slip one of his Cochrans in my case when he isn't looking.

I have read both threads, and have seen nothing that would prevent me from buying either a Barton or a Justis case.

With that said, I have a Winn 2 x 4 hard leather case. It may or may not be imported. I don't know, and what itsn't these days? I have been complimented on it's looks more times than I can count. And, it is extremely durable.

Not saying it was by me,:o but it has been tossed down the basement stairs a few times. The only damage is a couple of scuff marks. No damage whatsoever to the cues. It has held up very, very well.

Nothing that would keep me from it either in truth, but I didn't want the stupid flame war to continue in this thread when I wanted more information about what else is out there.

Right now I'm leaning towards a 4x8 sterling because of cost, and liking the idea of a 2x4 gtf or whitten for carry.

Lets see what she says. I guess Johnny says too. Hager

Ok, I decided to take some quick pics of my OnQCases 2x4 case. Keep in mind this is almost 3 years old and has left the house a minimum of 3 times a week and has been thrown in the trunk, back seat, dropped and knocked over numerous times while playing league, has had beer and other beverages spilt on it, and been in the rain and I think even the snow a time or two. All I can say is going through all that, it did its job and protected my cues. Here are the pics:

I've never had the luxury of a true custom case. My best leather case is an Instroke Buffalo, which I'm quite satisfied with. However, my preferred carry case is a Sterling Wave. I love the cushioning provided by the soft tube interior, the flexibility of the 2x5 / 3x4 configuration, as well as the ability to load everything joint-down, so the tubes stay free from chalk mess. If I ever have the luxury of commissioning a custom case, I'd simply have a Sterling interior wrapped with Buffalo-style leather, minimal rivets and brass hardware. That would be the case my survivors could fight over after I'm gone.

Whitten case for me whether is it used as a storage or a case where I carry around from my residence to my local pool hall.

Whitten

I just bought a used Whitten from cuemaster (on here) and love the thing! It wasn't in the greatest shape but with some saddle soap and leather conditioner (oh and a quick trip back to Joe to replace a zipper. which incidently, instead of just replacing the zipper, he puts on a whole new lid!) it is in near perfect condition.

If you won't buy a case from jb or justis, who would you buy one from?

I'm thinking of buying a case, torn between cheaper storage, or just a nice 4x8. I'm leaning towards a swift currently. Who would you pick?

Love my On-Q. Garth's work is up there with the best. Here is a pic of my finace's case and mine. Both are custom to match our cues. Mine is a 3x7 her's is a 2x4.
