Another Cueball Training Device/Product!!

Son-in-law, was showing off another billiard product at pool banquet last night. Photo show large size 2.50 - 2.75, small size 2.375 - 2.50

The 2.375" (2 3/8") one would be good practice with pool balls - 1/16" clearance each side.

Golf tees work too, but they don't have the handy "target" mark centered over these arcs - something specific to aim at.

IMO, a poorly conceived product. So when the balls don’t go thru, does it move or get knocked over?

I bought Pro Pocket reducers years ago. IMO, it performs better than this gadget on compelling you to
shoot straight. You can install them just on the corner pockets and practice shooting from the kitchen
or anywhere else. The reducers shrink a 4.25” pocket really small and the reducer never moves requiring
you to reposition it for missed shots. You want to shoot straight, get some pocket reducers and find a table
with 4.5” pockets or smaller. The pocket reducers will make the pocket size really hard to master and is so
much more satisfying to see the object ball drop and disappear. The best is they are stable and don’t move.

Just use two short pieces of dowel. Use a ball to judge how far to put them apart. You only knock over one of them for a bad shot, so it's clear which side you missed on.

But I think it's much, much better to just play a straight-in follow shot. The path of the cue ball tells you how well you hit the ball. Make it progressive, moving the cue ball farther and farther from the OB.

I think gadgets like in the OP are only useful if there is no other way to get a player to practice. I think projection systems fall into that category -- spending a thousand makes you feel guilty if you don't use it.

Definitely a gimmicky trainer. But there have been a lot of them over the years. These hoop type trainers do move pretty easily, but that's by design so you can see your error. Some fall over. Same shift. You get an audible response as well. IMO the most useful part is shooting through the hoop, off a rail, and then back through the same hoop. This indicates good aim and no unintentional English.

I also find a 5" diameter (or larger) one is not really useful. It's just too big for training.

Shameless plug: I have an affinity for the the Omega Hoops are they are easy to set back up.

Gosh, has anyone tried Pro Pocket Reducers on a Diamond 9’ table with 4.25” CP openings?
I do it a couple times a month and boy, after about 30 mins of practice, I remove the reducers.

I practice straight shots, curt shots, bank shots and the most critical factor is object ball speed.
And I never have to reposition the pocket reducers because it moved ajar or was knocked over.

After you take the reducers out, the CP size didn’t get bigger and obviously still is small at 4.25”.
But the pockets look enormous and the shots you missed with the reducers start dropping easily.

Oh well, buy what you like but I’d have to question why when pocket reducers accomplish the
same thing and have added versatility to practice different types of shots & is more time efficient.

You’d never see me do this with one of my original maple shafts or the Kielwood ones I’ve purchased.

It’s fine with carbon fiber shafts but what I just viewed is a reason I’d never use this product. My shafts
are pristine and I work way too hard to keep it that way to be using the shaft like in the video. I never let
my shafts roll a CB into position or move an object ball even when I practice. Never disrespect your cue.

Could you not just use a couple pieces of cheap chalk, or even 4 pieces? two ether side with what ever gap you want to create, shoot the CB through.

Thanks all AZers' who posted for their options!
Jamison Neu did show me this aid using regular pool balls for stroking/aiming. Only to find out I need another eye operation.

I agree here. Totally.

Those Pocket Reducers can do wonders for your game.

I wonder if any pros have ever taken along one to a tournament and practiced in the practice room with it on just before a match?

I think the pros will be far more interested in learning how the real pockets work on the tournament tables. Reduced to 3 1/2?!?
