Another Free Cue Give away ....

The King

I was reading through and saw Bills free cue give away and thought what a nice thing to do... I have a Sneaky Pete made of Purple Heart that I really like a friend built it for me and I seldom use it ... It is straight and has a nice hit to it there is nothing wrong with the cue it has a sniper tip on it and wieghs right at 19 ozs .... I'm cue rich and have several setting around here this cue is straight ... it is used but in great shape I almost hate to get rid of it but if it is to help out someone who may not be as fortunate and loves the game as much as I do I will be glad to help out and I hope they enjoy the cue as much as I do ... I paid 175.00 for the cue but will give it to someone who could use a good player but does not have one for a good reason ... All I ask is the same thing Bill asked .... That this cue not be resold that who ever wins this cue take care of it and enjoy it and loves the game ... Please don't ask for this cue for yourself but if you have a friend or know someone that has given back to others or is in need that would like to have thier own cue please post thier story here and I will read them, and pick someone out to send it to .... I will pay for shipping and I hope they enjoy the cue as much as I did ... I have several and I'm certainly not going to miss one and in a small way this will help repay some of the kindness I have recieved here on Az from all of you AZ'ers ...

Thanks to all of you for your kindness since I have been here on the forum.... Please be honest and I was going to put the best ones to a vote but was reminded of what happened the last time someone did that so I will pick the best one myself ... No offense but as a friend pointed out it is best to avoid the confussion ...

Thats a very nice gesture befitting of a KING.---Leonard who does not need the cue at all, I'm like the dog just looking for a porkchop.

What a fine gesture King.

So, here is the story. I have a friend who is a good player, always a gentleman, never calls a foul, just wants to play and enjoy the game. He does not own a cue, nor can he really sink money into a custom made cue, but for the past five years has been my partner in doubles 8-ball league, plus we usually sign up for a singles 8-ball team together.

I offer to lend him one of my cues, every night, but he is embarrassed to use it, so he grabs a house cue, which as you knows in bars they are usually 2X4 pieces of garbage.

He walks to the table, most opponents holding thier Schon's, Capone's, Scrugg's...etc, look at the bar cue and smile. As usual, his hand is out first to shake his opponents hand and greet them with "Good Luck" or "Good Game" with a genuine smile. Then he shoots the lights out under thier unsuspecting noses.

I have offered to help him out by trying to get him his own personal cue, but as always, the offer is gratefully accepted but declined with thanks.
Every player in the league knows him, with a "Hey Dougie, how are you, hows it going?"
Everyone knows he is a straight shooter, no BS. So...I think this would be a great asset to him, he would love the cue as much as you and I love the game.

Hope you put this note into consideration.

Highest Regards

PS..This friend isnt a kid...he's late 40's almost 50 and I am closer to 60 than 50...hehehehe, wish I still had eyes like him.

Thanks for your story ...

Thanks for your story I will certainly take it into consideration ... I will let this run through Firday night to let who ever wants in post there story and I will make a choice Friday night ... And mail out the cue Saturday ... thank you ...

This is a graet idea and i'm sure that everyone who reads it will feel the same.

My story is short but I think its worth sharing....
I have a friend that likes to play pool but since he really doesn't have his own cue nor does he have the money to spend on one he doesn't play much unless I'm working down at the pool hall (Jimmy's Pro Billiards). I used to have a Meucci sneaky that he just loved to play with and I just think that he would play more pool if he had a cue of his own. I was going to give him my meucci cue for a birthday present but the cue ended up getting damaged while I was playing a tourniment. Since then I have been looking for a nice cue that might "inspire" my friend to play more pool!

Thanks again King! What your doing takes a big heart and I, along with many other, am greatful for people like yourself.

hi King:

If this deal doesn't work out for Doug, please PM me. I have similar issues with my collection and certainly could afford to ship a cue to someone who needs one.

Thanks Smokey ...

Smokey , I read your posts all the time I just wish I had half the compassion I get from you when reading your posts ... Your always positive and caring and trying to do the right things ... For me your posts are an inspiration and I enjoy reading them ... I'm honored you replied to this thread...

Stikapos that is a great gesture there it is nice to see AZ'ers coming together to help each other and also help promote the game to others that may not be in a postion to enjoy it as much as the game should be enjoyed ... Bill of Cornerstone started this off and Pii and pooh killer and KY all pitched in and it touched me when Bills 5 year old wanted to chip in ... I have several cues setting around and I have several new Sly's coming in ... I have moved some cues on this site and after seeing what Bill and them did I just wanted to do something ... This cue is nothing fancy in fact when my friend made it I told him I did not want it to stand out I wanted a cue I could sneak into a club with without drawing any attention and that is what this cue is a Sleeper as I use to call them .... It is just a Purple Heart Plain Jane and it is straight as a arrow ... I also told him I wanted a cue with a good hit and this one hits very well and feels good in your hands ... It is nice and smooth , moves the cue ball well and I was never afraid to use it ... I use to carry it in my case with my Schon and use to take it in when I did not want to carry in my fancy cues. It has a sniper tip on it and play like a higher end cue who ever gets it may look at it and say it is a pretty common looking cue but when they hit with it I feel confident they will fall in love with it ... I have my Joss Sneaky with a OB1 shaft now I can use as a sleeper ... But I use my Sly all the time now and never put it down...

I plan to ship it out Saturday ...So keep posting your stories and who knows who will get it or how many others will step up and pitch in ... This is a very nice thing that Bill has started here ....

So, what's the deal ? Is the SP spoken for ? I just ran into an older guy who hangs at our local pool hall every day. Hits the same shot in practice for hours at a time. No cash, but has a good word to say to all, playing off the wall. Lots of stories of the old days here in Providence, including stories of Mosconi, Crane, etc. We started talking yesterday and he mentioned that he had a cue at one time, but some kids bashed it up and such. I'm looking to right that wrong for this fine old gentleman. I'm looking at cheap SP's, but if someone has one, it would help out alot.

BTW, while some on this board can't afford to give away cues (and nothing meant by that), others of us can. We should really have a thread that promotes this activity, so that if someone really needs a cue, we can provide it to them. Especially kids. Anyone up for this idea ?

thanks,
tim

Hey King,

Well, I am requesting this cue for my dad.

My dad was born in 1949 in Vietnam. He grew up poor as many Vietnamese people do. During his adult hood he joined the Navy and became a Navy Liutenant for the South Vietnamese armed forces.

He served in the Vietnam war along side Americans to fight against the Viet congs and for freedom. After the fall of Saigon, the Viet Congs told him that he was going for "Training and Re-Education" which was just a lie for Prison camp. He was in there for 6 years and eating nothng but a bowl of rice, and drinking water and carrying lumber each day. This has made him malnourished and at the age of 40, he lost all his teeth. He is now 59.

We came to this country, in 1991 with absolutely nothing and no understanding of English. We firsted moved to Lincoln Nebraska and lived there for a year. We were taken in by an uncle who was a priest and the church provided good donations of food and used clothes. We later moved to Highland Park, California in 1992 or so because we had a few relatives here. Both my parents with no words of English worked in a garment shop sewing and making five to ten cents per measly shirt or blouse. My dad is now a machinist and works from 5 am till 4:25 pm every weekday, he recieves $9.25 per hour for the manual labor. Each morning, I would be online posting threads on this forum and checking out ebay, I would see him driving off to work. With no experience, limited English and the years of life’s abuse has taken its toll on him he's a true soldier. He loves to play Carom billiards and taught me the game. I shoot with $150 dollar Meucci cue and nothing special. I would love to own a Richard Black, Southwest, or an expensive custom….but being poor to start off I can never complain. My family lives in a 2 bed room apartment here in Glendale, CA and we are doing fine opposed to how it would be if we were still in Vietnam. We live under a housing assistance program called "Section 8." The rent is $1,750 a month, and housing pays $800 of it. My dad makes roughly $24-25k a year.

My dad saved up and bought his first guitar here in America a few months back. It’s a $100 or so Yamaha guitar that finally went on sale. He loves the wood and the dot inlays on it. I would just like the cue for him so we can shoot pool or 3 coushin carom together. Plus, I would like to kick his butt in competitions. Hehehe, isn’t that what a son is suppose to do? I am 24 years old, I just graduated with a Bachelors of Science. I recieved a free education with FAFSA and Pell Grants. I’ve learned so much from my dad and what it is to be a good person and surviving as a good person. I just want to give him something nice just to say thanks. We don’t have much, but what we have is never taken for granted.

Thank you.

My brother used to be in very bad shape due to drugs. He has really lost a lot to drugs (debt, car, work, girlfriend of 8 years) and it really has taken a toll on him. He is in substanstial debt due to years of fighting the addiction in rehabs. In the next few months he will be one year clean but has already done wonders in the year he has been clean. He sponsers dozens of teens/20 somethings in the area and has already been asked to run an oxford sober house.

Already he has had such an impact to bring to the table in life since his transformation He weekly runs an AA meeting in the local area of about 30 people every Monday. Also about once or twice a week he is invited to speak in different meetings all over New Jersey. I attended one of these meetings and he is a very powerful person - and has the ability to speak in front of hundreds of people - after being a traditionally nervous person. And recently at nights he volunteers on the NJ AA Helpline from 10pm - 6AM and answers calls for people who need it. He is a great guy 26 years old but fell into the trap of drugs. He LOVES to play pool and always always asks me to play and would love a cue but cannot afford one. I think he deserves the cue for how much he gives back the community putting his story up here maybe someone will give back to him.

He plays pool at a local club and at a local pool hall but is forced to play with a housecue everytime he goes. I think this cue would be great for someone like him who is just a raw talented player that could take his game to the next level..

Thanks for listening.

I know someone had been drinking my vodka - it must be King!!

Ok I'm going to decide on who to give the cue to late Friday night... I have had a change of heart though the cue I was going to give away is a cue a close friend of mine made for me ... But I can't seem to part with it because of who made it for me and I really don't want to let it go ... So instead I'm going to give away a new Viking cue ... This cue is very nice a little fancier then the Sleeper ... Who ever gets it is going to get a nice cue ....I have some pics I can post of the Viking ...

Thanks!

Hey,

I am going to withdraw my brothers story from this free drawing. A member here messaged me and said he would send a cue to my brother. Protecting the user I will not disclose the name until I ask him first - which I will follow with pictures of the cue and a double big thank you.

Even though I did not recieve the cue yet for my brother I trust the gentlemen and even though my brother does love pool he doesn't need *2* pool cues!! I think it would best if it did go to someone else now that hes getting a cue!!

Thank you king for the oppty to even post my story.. Thanks a whole lot!!! You're a good man - and I hope whoever gets it gets good use outta it!!

Thanks everyone.
