Another "help me buy my pool table" thread...

The only advice I would give is to

TAKE YOUR TIME

You may ending having this table for decades. Take your time, listen to the advice given here. Try as many tables as you can. Do your homework, research. I did and it took me about a year. And I'm so glad I waited. I never regret my purchase and love my table. I ended up with a 9ft Diamond. This does not mean this is what you should buy. Find out what will make you happy for the long run.

And Finally:

There are so many good used tables for sale. Buying new should be your last resort.

GOOD LUCK!
Agreed! I didn't think there would be many options in my area for a "good" Gold Crown but now that I've made it my main focus, I'm seeing a little more. Plus the fact that Mark Gregory will build me one of his for a little more than my initial budget has me thinking really hard about it!

So, I went home and measured the original game room for the table and its 14'2" x 21'9". I can squeeze an 8 footer in there and be ok. However, I still have the option to swap my home theater room for the game room since they're both side by side and on the same level. The theatre room is 17'11" x 18'5", and that would give me enough room for the 8 footer comfortably or the 9 footer squeezed in if I go that route. Decisions decisions...

14.2 might be ok if not on the rail. Mine is close I will measure later. 21long is great. Also I think GC might have a pro size 8ft

Nothing to think about. Do it. To have it done right is everything. Save Beg borrow steal. Once you are set up its paid for.

Find a reputable table mechanic .... Maybe he can help you find one, will look at a potential purchase with you. Maybe he knows how, where to find one. And it's all about the installation. All installers are not created equal. Most are poor-fair at best. Be selective
Thanks to this forum, I now have 2 highly recommended mechanics in Georgia keeping an eye out for me! And on my way to Florida this weekend for vacation I'll be out stopping at a pool hall that has one for sale due to a brand changeover to Diamond. Wish me luck!

You won't be able to fit a 9fter in either room without having interference when the cue ball is on the rail. You'll have to jack up on those shots. That's just not worth it and is no way to set up a room. Imo, your only option is an 8fter in the room that is 21feet long. In that room, you can barely squeeze in an 8fter with little to no interference.

Good evening all! I've been lurking for the last few months and finally found the perfect reason to join the forum and introduce myself. After spending the last 15 years in my first home without a pool table due to room size issues, I now have a new home and man cave with enough room to get my own. I grew up playing pool at local pubs and the occasional friend or relatives home that had a table and have always loved the game. My goal is to get my game to the highest level possible and to beat all my friends, family, and new neighbors who all have 8 footers in their man caves to play on the regular.

This Friday I'll be heading to a local billiards store in the Atlanta area and buying a Connelly Kayenta ($2490) for roughly $3k with delivery ($275), Championship Teflon cloth ($111), and a starter pack ($189) My other option was an Olhausen Alpharetta in the same price range. Yes, I'd love to find a nice Gold Crown or used Diamond as I've seen a lot of you all recommend in the past threads that I researched. But the market for those in my area doesn't give me a lot of confidence. So for $3k, should I pull the trigger or go another route?
IMO, that's a lot of money for an 8' Connelly. Is Connelly still in business?

What area are you in? (edit: I see you're in Atlanta. Call Mark Gregory, as others have noted)

I will comment on this. I know that the ideal for guys like me and you is 19' x 14' 10" to have no 'jacked up' issue, but my 9' Diamond ifit n a 22'+ x 14' 3" and I would never, ever, ever, ever complain about the tightness. There are a few people on this board that have something even slightly smaller, and for most if not everyone that has ~ 14' for 9' table, the number of times you need to use a short cue (a good, well-balanced, short cue like the Balance Rite Short Cue) is so few and far between that nobody who loves this game and wants to play daily on a 9' would complain.

But, that's my experience, and it seems to be echoed by the people who have a similar constraint.

Freddie <~~~ YMMV, of course.

So thanks to all you guys, I'm now the proud owner of a Gold Crown 3! Mark Gregory and crew came out today and got me all set up and recovered with Tournament Green Simonis 860. I'd like to thank all of yall who chimed in about holding off and waiting on the right table, as well as recommending Mr Perfect Pocketz. He and I talked probably 5 or 6 times over the last 2 weeks and I was truly impressed at his expertise. I'll post a pic when I figure out how, and give more details on the sweet deal I got. As for now, can't talk anymore, gotta go break this baby in and get acquainted with the ghost!!

I'm happy you did not get a junk furniture table.
You truly got the best table on the planet you can possibly have.
Mark does a great job at what he does working on those tables.

If I was in your shoes and had the space for a table I would get a 9' Diamond. This is of course just my opinion, but that is the table that I want. You're going to spend a decent amount of money on the table, set up and probably balls, light etc. You add that up with the fact that you are probably going to see this table (and hopefully play on it) every day. Because of those things I highly suggest getting exactly what you want.

You don't want to jump all over something that you're going to be disappointed in.

He done just fine!
