Just saw this on the banner at the top of the page. Looks like an event that will rival the size of the DCC. It will be interesting to see how successful this will be, and if it has any effect on the DCC in Jan.

The tournament is run by Mark Griffin. The same man who is in with Greg Sullivan in the DCC. Mark just also heads a different organization (Play BCA).

They did something very similar to this last year. I think there was an IPT event going on at about the same time and not a lot of people showed up in Louisville. Nick Vita won the 1-hole. John Brumback won the banks. I don't remember who won the other events.
I think this tourney has been around for several years now. It was just moved to Louisville from Vegas last year. I don't think it will do anything but help the DCC. I will suppoprt anything that Mark Griffin or Greg SUllivan try. These guy's have the drive and resources to make things happen in this game. I wish them luck.
I agree with you, Sliprock. Griffin and Sullivan are the real deal, and the "Olympics" promises to be an extravaganza. However, I'm leery of the dates. I think it's scheduled too close to the DCC to attract players from out of the central mid-west area. Few are going to attend the Olympics, then turn right around 2 months later and return to Louisville for the DCC. Or --putting it another way-- DCC attendees from out of the area are not likely to participate in a similar event 2 months prior.sliprock said:

Last year the U.S. Open 1P and other events were held at the end of August. That type of scheduling provided a major event evenly spaced, twice a year. My guess is that Mark had difficulty finding a suitable venue to schedule for the late summer. This summer the Executive West was not going to be available, so they secured the Clarion. Perhaps the Clarion wasn't available until November.
They've scheduled a very ambitious event, and I'm hoping it'll be widely successful. I note this is the first major team event to be held on 9-foot tables! I think both Mark and Greg are visionaries. Pool is very fortunate to have these men. No telling what they'll come up with next!

The world of American Pool needs more events. This Event is promoting decent money. Why on earth would anyone have anything negative to say about another big event being added? Especially when the promoter is part of one of the biggest event successes in the past 10 years (DCC)?

The only issue I heard someone mention was it overlapped the WPC. I have not researched it to see if that is the case.
