Another Rules Question

When playing 8 ball, occasionally I'll call a safety then intentionally shoot one of my own balls in the pocket. Since I called safe I do not continue shooting. I believe this is a legal shot, correct?

My question is... Can you do this in 9 ball? i.e., Call safe, pocket your ball (hopefully leave opponent safe) then let your opponent back at the table. I don't think I've seen it done in 9 ball. (I'm aware you can do this when pushing out, but that's not what I'm talking about)

you can't 'call' safe in 9-ball, if you pocket a ball after touching the lowest number on the table, you keep playing, if you don't its a foul

One of the greatest shots in the Accu-Stats library is a safety attempt that goes horribly wrong for the shooter. Unfortunately, he was trying to play safe but accidently pockets a ball. His inning continued and we witnessed a little magic from the Magician.:)

That's been one of my favorites for a long time. Firstly becuase of the amazing shot Efren makes, but also because Earl shows great class. One of these things still happens frequently, and the other.... not so much.
