Before I get to the info about Scott, I'll give you a little background. I am a systems administrator and I have a tendency to have to work after hours after my users are gone for the day. I don't get to play as much as I would like as I am now a ripe old 31 years of age (Don't put me out of my misery yet, I have a couple of years left) and I find I need sleep more than I used to. I enjoyed going to Pool School with Randy G last year, and IMO I was able to incorporate much of what Randy taught me and it has helped my game to be much more consistent. I don't view instructors or coaches to be a cure all or an instant ticket to the tv lights, but they are a great stepping stool if you recognize them as such. I believe they are there to shorten your learning curve and help you get to your destination a little quicker.

Having said that, Scott came in for a few hours to help tweak a few things as I felt there was something that I wasn't doing correctly and maybe find something one on one that might have been missed in the group environment of pool school. While very professional, Scott made things fun and interesting, and, I believe, mixed in the right amount of praise and suggestion to keep me motivated. He did identify what we believe to be my biggest hurdle at the moment, something that I did not develop as well as I should have from my time at pool school. I would also like to say that per his M.O. he did give me quite a bit more time than he was being paid for. He wanted to make sure that I got what he considers to be my moneys worth, and he went well above and beyond. All of this on his wife's birthday and me suggesting that he leave on time for once!

Being in sports since I was 3, I think I can safely comment on coaching styles from Baseball, Football, and Basketball, and Scott gets his points across well while being concise enough for you not to nod off. If you have the opportunity, I highly recommend giving him a try.

Scott, thank you very much for your time and energy. It was truly a pleasure, and I hope to see you again!

Great post, I was going to post a very similar story about myself but you beat me to it. Just about 2 weeks ago Scott came to visit me as well. I think having a lesson with Scott is a must for anyone serious about their game. I to went to pool school with Randy a little over a year ago. Randy is a great teacher and is a great leader. We easily managed multiple instructors and students and sent you home feeling inspired. Scott was the same way, but as an individual was able to give very detailed instruction and ideas. I thought he went into far greater detail on allot of the mother drills and their uses. He was able to answer all of my questions and many more. I think he would have stayed till there where no more questions regardless of how long if took.
I guess that was the long way to bump your thread and agree with you.

So Nice Job Scott and Randy

By the way, where did you go to pool school Shakes?

Randy: Thank you! You were definitely a huge help for me.

SW: I went to pool school with Randy in Dallas.

There are advantages and drawbacks to both classroom and one-on-one instruction. Having one instructor work with only one student will offer individualized attention. Having multiple instructors working with the group allows for a lot more input and different perspectives to come out during the training. But the bottom line is having instructor(s) that know their material and can communicate it to the student(s) effectively. Both Randy and Scott do a great job in either setting.

Shakes...Thanks for the kind words! I had a great time working with you too (even though it was my wife's birthday! :D ). That's a nice room that you play out of, and those Diamond tables play great too! Glad I could help you, and I look forward to seeing you again!

My introduction to SPF was the similiar. I first went to Randy's pool school, then about a 7 or 8 months later had a private session with Scott. I am of the personal opinion that for me that was pretty much the optimal way to do it and I think it might be for most people.
After Randy's school my game stepped up, but I was still mixing in old habits and not comfortable with SPF, it still felt foreign to me. Scott came in and gave me the private session solidifying all that Randy taught. Scott started with MD# 1 and I'm thinking "already been there, done that", but there was definitely value added in the 1 on 1 situation and Scott could engage in teaching techniques that time was just not available for in the class. Randy's school planted the majority of the information and Scott matured it.
BTW, SPF has definitely become an unconcious part of my game and at 61 I'm playing the best I have in my entire life. I still find the old habits creeping in and I have to make a conscious effort to return to SPF, but that becomes less and less necessary everytime I play.
Thanks Randy and Scott.

SoundWaves...I had a great time working with you too. It was fun to have your daughters shoot a couple of trick shots too! I had a great trip out to the NYC area, and I'll be back out again before too long!

After lessons in MS and LA, I was in Houston on Monday, working with another student. Currently I'm doing several lessons in San Diego over the Thanksgiving weekend, and then I'm off to Los Angeles for three days. I'll be in Phoenix the first weekend of December, and then am coming back through north Texas and Louisiana to work with more students, before heading to Chicago. I have several lessons there, and one fellow flying in from Korea to spend a day with me! I'm excited about that!:D

Well we enjoyed your company to and after 2 weeks I am starting to be able to shoot again. When you where at the pool hall you where playing 9 ball with a guy when I got there. He has asked me about you and our lesson. Be sure to let him know when you are in the area. You will have a new student for sure.
