Another sick escape by Melling

The things that's most impressive to me with so many of these Melling highlight vids, is the way he strings hero shots together. For most of even the elite players, you see a video posted of a great shot they pulled off in a match. Many times they don't get out after too. For Melling, time and time again he strings together multiple low percentage shots to win the game. In this case, to do it playing chinese 8ball on those pockets makes it even more impressive. He's such an impressive player when it comes to creativity and holding his nerve to get out of a jam.
∆ Yep. This cat might be the Larry Bird of pool. 👍

Friends don't send friends to FleeceBunk. Here's the pair of Heyball kicks... At the very start of the clip the opponent apologizes to Chris because the hook was a fluke.

Thank you Sir.

Has there ever been given a reason why bar table 8 ball is way more popular among the pros in the UK and here in the US all the fans ever do is laugh at the idea of pros playing on bar tables? Or is it because we assume its harder due to the snooker type pockets and snooker balls?

For a long time the UK had more or less no American pool tables -- just the little six-foot English 8-ball tables with reds, yellows, the black and a tiny cue ball -- smaller than the object balls. And of course the really bizarre rules -- like two turns at the table if your opponent fouled. It is not really bar 8-ball, it is its own thing.

Try finding me American tables in the UK... Only now are a couple dotted around the country...
I assume it evolved this way because of lack of space and a desire to make some money for a bar... (snooker halls exist - obviously... but a pool table is something most bars have. Never seen a Pool hall where I am from) and I would say it has always been painted in a more patriotic 'this is our game' mentality (which you're right, is coupled with a 'it's harder than that game for simpletons' attitude)

That is certainly news to me. I have seen a shot denied because the cue ball double-kissed a ball into the obvious pocket. Maybe some other rule set?

A copy of my WeChat message with my Shanghainese friend today...

Me:
Do you need to in Chinese 8? I thought you did. But I am not sure. It doesn't look like he did. But no one questioned it.

I guess you would call it just in case anyway. Maybe it's an obvious play, and not needed at the pro level

Him: no need to call - Not even for the black

Me: Not sure how I feel about that lol

Although for Chinese-8 fair enough I guess, it's your game...

What happened to the UK 9-Ball tour? Are they playing on blackball tables?
Obviously not lol - not sure what happened/is happening with the state of 9ball in the UK - I have only been playing/following since December of this year.

What I am saying is, there is a handful in London... Show me where the rest are? One or two in other cities maybe.

There is no recreational American tables... I started a thread about this previously. It was answered pretty detailed there. A few people reached out and explained those who are interested are mostly playing on home purchased tables to practice, or are snooker players who decided American table was a cake walk. It's quite a small clique/community from what I can gather.

Lucky people who have money and space to afford it on 'shit show island'
Thanks to the people who DM'd an even offered me a visit :)

I can do that! I mean the part where I make an impressive shot and the cue ball rolls behind another ball. I can't back it up with another stunner, my big shot energy would be depleted and it would take at least an hour to recharge.

Chris Melling is a walking highlight reel, if anyone other than Efren deserves to be called the Magician, it's him.

The rule changed a few years ago. It used to be call shot.
Yeah, I asked a few friends here who confirmed that.
Annoyingly, most friends when playing 8ball here, play the old Chinese rules on American tables, and the new rules on Chinese tables.
Frustrating as hell when people don't call a pocket imo.
