Another Uni loc question

I was wondering why I never see a uniloc joint with pilots similar to those in the first picture, where the wood on the outside of the pilot makes contact with the joint collar. It seems like every uniloc joint only has that floating brass pilot which doesn't make contact with anything. Is there a reason for this or could it be done either way with a uniloc joint?

Thanks

Pilot Fit

I think it's a matter of how large the pilot diameter is on that particular's cuemaker's cue.
If the pilot's diameter of the cuemaker's cue is larger than .500" , The pilot on the brass insert has to be "Built-up" to get that larger pilot diameter.
Piloted joints uses the Face and Fit for alignment. A sloppy a fit will cause side to side movement.
The face aligns the center axis of the butt and shaft.

Looks like Uni-Loc* uses the beginning, unthreaded shank for their "fit"
When I make Uni-Loc* caps and put them together, there is a resistance caused by the trapped air inside the insert,
telling me their fit is very close.
