Old oversize 8', 1" 1/2" slate in good condition. Would a person be disappointed in the playability of an old table compared to a newer one? I would like to have an antique but I want a table that's fun to play on and that I can bank balls on and that other people would find to be a good competitive table to play on.

These old tables can be the nuts, if the rubber is still good (or been replaced). Not many tables play as good or better than an old Anniversary. Heavy duty frames and extra thick slate does make a difference!

Go into the "talk to a mechanic" here on AZ. There are a couple of threads in there that I have started with my antique table. I can say probably any old table has a host of problems that don't necassarily reflect poor design as in my case.
I question anyone who says the newer tables are better as "in what regards". I am looking to increase the playability of my table which so far has been about previous hack jobs. I think I am going to be very happy with what I have after the repairs.
Also there was a recent thread about T-rail tables.

Old Table
I restored an old Wendt table from the early 1900s. I sold it to a buddy and I play on it now and then. It plays great. The pockets are kind of big but other than that it is a fun table to play on and a piece of history.
