Any 1 Pocket Tournaments Near Me?

Ok, After playing my first couple of sets in 1hole, the bug has bitten me. And now i am curious if there is any 1hole tournaments near me like 1-2 hrs away.

I'm in the Western Michigan area, So i am looking at like Detroit or Chicago as being about as far as i would want to go.

I know Jayme Goodwin in BattleCreek has his place, but i dont think he holds any 1hole tourny's. Plus what about Hall of Fame in Warren, Mi?

Any help would be nice.

Also curious question, how far do people tend to travel for a 1hole tourny? Its been brought up at the pool hall i frequent, and is a possiblity, once the summer is done.

And what is a decent entry fee ? I have heard that a Race to 3 is normal for a 1hole tourny.

check blackbird billiards in kazoo, they have a $15.00 tourney twice a month. its either the first & third or second & forth saturday of the month. check their website.

Just curious, how did you Fair in your 1st sets of 1p.
 
I'm sure you could always find a local poolroom and start your own two-man tournament. Better yet, you can set your own entry fee!

Eydie Romano can probably add better info, but there's an annual tournament on the Southside of Chicago at Cornbread Red's.
 
Hi Dave,

BlackBird Billiards just opened in Kalamazoo last month. It's just off exit 36A on 131 North.

We have a 1 hole tourney every other Saturday. The next 1-hole will be Saturday July 15th, which is also the grand openeing. Should be a good turnout.

We've got a lot of 1-pocket players here so you can come around any day and get a game.

here's the complete tourney schedule:

One Pocket Tournament
Date: Alternate Saturdays Start Time: Noon Entry Fee: $15.00
Opens July 1, 2006.
Open 1 Pocket on 9 Foot Diamond Pros.

Banks
Date: Friday Nights Start Time: 7:00 PM Entry Fee: $15.00
Open Banks Tournament on 9 Foot Diamond Pros. Short Rack, DCC Rules.

Eight Ball Tournament
Date: Saturdays Start Time: 2:00 PM Entry Fee: $15.00
Open 8 Ball Tournament on BB.
No handicap.

The 99er
Date: Wednesday Nights Start Time: 7:00 PM Entry Fee: $15.00
HDC 9 Ball on 9 Foot Diamond Pros.
$99.00 Added on 3rd Wednesday on the month.
Players must have been in at least one previous Wednesday night tournament that month to qualify for the $99 Added tournament

For that being my first time of playing pool, i actually thought i played decent.

The guy i played against he shoots 8ball and 9ball pretty good, probably B+ / A player when he turns his game on.

And the first two racks i won 8-7 and the third rack he hooked me good, to the point where i had to make a 3 ball combo long rail down, which i just missed, but lead to him running out his last 7 balls.

Basically alot of our play was saftey moves which was nice because it made for some very interesting shots. It also made me learn that my CB control is no where near what i thought it was. But hey nobody is perfect lol.
 
Not trying to knock your game or discourage you in anyway, but if you have just started playing one pocket you might want to hold off on the tournements for awhile. If you havent played that much or dont know the game( and believe me it is enormous) it can be rather discouraging playing in the tournements. It was for me. You are constantly being locked up and never seem to get a good shot when you are playing people that play alot or have played alot. I played a few tourn's when i first started, and gave up. I waited about a year or more before i played another tournement. Still didnt wait long enough. One pocket is the best of all the pool games imo, but also probably one of the hardest. Good luck and hope you run eight and out on em.

This may not matter,.....but since playing 1 pocket my game has gone to another level. TRUST when I say this it is the BEST game ever to make your game better, that and straight pool. I used to break and run in 9 ball maybe 2-4 times a day. now its gone up to 7 times a day, this is out of like 25-30 racks of 9-ball. 1 pocket is the hardest game to play like the person previously said I know a kid who is probably like 4-10-5 ft. tall cannot run in 9 ball but in 1 pocket, the kid is a problem. good shootin'

On the contrary, where else is he gonna learn the game for as little as a weekly 15 dollar investment. I say enter as many as you can and learn something every match, regardless of the final outcome.
 
If you are looking to improve I would recommend "The Rack" in Livonia - nice safe room and you can play 5$ - $10 a game all day long with several levels to choose from. Eventually, you can match up with "Miami" who will also play $10 a game and you can learn a ton.

For watching I would recommend the "Hall of Fame" in Warren which often has the best players in town matching up in 1-hole in the action room - also very safe.

I would not recommend "House of Champions" unless you go during the day or with a known player - they get some of the best action there though.

i'm a little confused...why do you think house of champions isnt safe?
its just as safe as any other pool hall...oak park, livonia, warren.....people arent stupid they know these are gambling spots...you could get robbed at any pool hall...there may be more black people at the house of champions but they are all friendly (just as friendly as any other white stranger at a different pool hall, maybe even more friendly)...i'd say come in play it cool...dont act like an asshole.
i play here and i assure you it is safe and the name doesnt lie, it is the house of champions...so many great one pocket players here...and good action.

john henry still in the neighborhood these days? there's a game you could learn from. more than just a world of knowledge and a nice guy too.
