One thing that turned me off about the Reno tourney is that the staff at the Sands was not interested in keeping the room open to after hours match ups. Also they were charging exorbitant table rates that really upset some players. I guess they were more interested in getting the players down to the casino.
Hey yobagua,
Exorbitant rates? Ten bucks an hour for any number of players is far from that! My questions is, why would a casino want to hold a tournament of any kind without shuffling the players past the gaming areas? I found the staff at the casino to be very interested in player relations. I travel cross country to play there. Is it the best tournament we play in? I'm not sure. Is it one of the best? You bet. Incidently, the tables do not belong to the Sands. An independent table distributor provides the tables and receives payment for any after hours play time. Have you shared your thoughts with Scott, Linda or any of the Sands people?
Diamond Billiards on South Virginia was open twenty four hours a day. Any players who cringed at the thought of ten bucks would have been happy with the nine bucks an hour there. They even had two Diamonds set up with the same incorrect pockets as those at the tournament site! I heard more complaints about the pockets than the price. Oh well, different strokes for different folks!
