Any active duty military here?

Zim as far as creating this for all of the services, I think may just be too difficult to start at first. But trying to set it up Air Force wide seems more reasonable to me. If the Air Force tournament gets support behind it then we can try to expand it to include other services. I know of a person that could be a POC in PACAF. I could be one for ACC. You have AMC covered I believe. That leaves the following to get POC's for:

Air Education & Training Command
Air Force Materiel Command
Air Force Space Command
Air Force Special Ops Command - this command does not have any bases listed so I guess we can exclude it.
Air Force Reserve Command

There are some other bases that do not fall under these though

I can be the POC for AETC...

You forgot USAFE

AFSOC is at Hurlburt Field, Florida, which is where my wife was just stationed at and we plan on retiring there in about 5-6 years. I have friends there. I have a good friend stationed in England and another in Germany...USAFE COVERED!
Seems like almost all Commands are covered! Now lets get it listed on a website that we can all access, preferebly from a Government pc (not a site that's going to be blocked, like geocities.com) and a home pc. We need to come up with a tournament outline, monthly, quarterly, bi-annually, annually?? I think it would be neat if we could have a tournament quarterly and the 4th qtr being the AF Championship. We could take the top 2 from each qrtly tournament and advance them to the Year End Championship. Or do we just have an Annual Tournament and advertise the heck out of it. If that's the case, people in PACAF and USAFE might have a hard time getting PTDY to participate, especially if there's a lot of players interested.

Zim,

I think the best way to start is coming up with the format. Making the process clear and easy to understand and then submitting on a Form 1000. Otherwise you'll have to run this up the Services chain. Most Services will allow base tournaments, but without MAJCOM/USAF approval this will never fly. As far as "sponsors", they would have to be in spirit only, you may want to take a look at the Gift and Proffer AFI.

I would love to see this work, I think the best way to start is on a AF 1000 and if that don't work, start running the reccommendation up the chain.

For some reason I was just thinking this would be mainly stateside but yet I included PACAF. Tonight when I go to work if I have "time" I'll try to design a website. Reason I quote "time" is because working Mids in a Network Control Center, that is all you have is time.

Zim if I design this website, how would I go about uploading it your website?

Deadpoked- If you want a link to my site, I'll get a banner emailed to you. Email me michael@zimsrack.com and I'll get back to you.
I'm not sure if we really should go thru the AF chain, there's a lot of red tape to get thru. What if we did this independently as sort of a "DoD Appreciation Tournament" or something like that. If we go thru the DoD, there's a lot of paperwork and tape to cut thru. If we do it independently and make it a DoD invitational only (all DoD) we could have a better success rate. Suggestions?

How many military installations do you know of that is equipped to hold a large pool tournament? My answer, NONE! That is why we would have to seek commercial locations anyway. Why not just host a tournament and make it DoD only? Of course there's more to it than that, but basically that's it.

The idea of a "DoD Tournament" would work. Of course a disclaimer would have to be added. I would love to help with it. There's tons of considerations and work that would have to go into it. I think it's a great idea though!

TAP introduction in the Armed Forces

Mechanicsburg, PA – The Association for Pool introduces their latest
Amateur pool league, TAP into the Coast Guard. This division of TAP
will offer military personnel and their families the opportunity to
participate in weekly pool league play on coast guard bases located
across the globe. This weekly league play will offer them competitive
structured 8 ball billiard play under the TAP format of handicap
scoring. A new custom format of play will offer shorter playing
sessions to conform to the military standard operating procedure.
Tournaments at the end of each session will be offered to the top team
finishers with the opportunity to compete for prize money and trophies
with other division winners. A national tournament will be the
ultimate goal for qualifying teams in the future as the Armed Forces
league expands to all 5 services. This league format will be launched
to the Army, Navy, Air Force and the Marines in the final months of
2004 with an expectant completion of all services league play by mid
2005.
Thanks Keitth

It would be really great if we could get something going. I would really like to see this happen soon, maybe even with some sponsorship we could send the use an armed forces championship as a qualifiier and send the champion to play in the U.S. Open, that would be great!

I think you Air Force guys could make this happen a little easier than some other branches. I have always noticed more Air Force pool players than other branches. Let me know what I can do to help get this rolling.
