IMHO the best advice I can give you is to seek out the BEST 1-pocket players in your area and play them some cheap games, $10 - $20 per game should do it. Play them every chance you get and can afford for the next month or 2. Pay real good attention to what they do and try to use it in your game. The money you spend on these cheap gambling lessons will be the best knowledge you can get for your money.

Even before you get some books and videos, theres a couple of other things you need to do.

First thing to do is lose the CocobolaCowboy handle and forget about playing with a cocobola cue. The unwritten rule is 1 pocket players use birdeye or ebony plain janes-never ever cocobola. Also, having one of those Cuetec spangly cues with Allison Fishers name on it would be okay too.

Your new name, as of today is, BirdseyeOneHoleBoy.

Second thing is, you can't have a nice case. No Murnak's or Justis's or even Porpers. Get online and get you one of those inexpensive plastic soft cases preferably in a nice purple color. Maybe write BirdseyeOneHoleBoy on the side with a black magic marker.

You do those two things (plus sell me your cocobola cues and cases at smokin hot prices) and you're well on your way advancing your game to the "NEXT LEVEL."

Check your PM's.

I know a couple of hard core 1P players, and they talk about some book that was published a long while back. It was cheap then, and now it is worth a lot of money. Can't remember the name of it. I heard one of them say that someone stole his book, and the other say that they would sell it because it has too much valuable information to part with it.

I am sure you could find some great info from Freddy Bentivegna. He has books and videos available.

Your speaking about Winning One Pocket, great book and alot of knowledge in there.Cowboy if you want to play some then PM me and we can meet up and play cheap or for fun,i dont play lights out but dont play shabby either,i try to play really tight and not sell out so im not an easy game. :)

Watch as many one pocket videos as you can afford and play better players.

The only books really worth having for one pocket are the 100-300 each Eddie Robin books (Winning One Pocket; Shots, Moves & Strategies) and Koehlers beginners book Upscale One Pocket. Freddie the Beards books are also now required reading for banking and he also has some one pocket strategy in there. Banks are fundamental to 1-P, so his books and dvds are worth looking at.

Grady Matthews also one pocket videos. He has one that covers the end game that is worth buying if you're serious at all about one pocket.

I think Nick Varner just came out with a book of drills geared towards one pocket. Its probably worth getting but I havent seen it yet.

I would recommend playing better players for cheap as others have suggested, as well as buy any Accu-stats or TAR matches you can afford. Watching pro players will show you shots you never knew existed. I got a great match from TAR, here is the link: http://www.theactionreport.net/product.sc?categoryId=9&productId=21
Anything from Accu-stats with Efren or Cliff Joyner, Shannon Daulton should be worth the money. Watch Scott Frost at the Rack or Kolbys, if he still frequents those spots. Best of luck.

Just a long shot, but were you, as I was, stationed in Okinawa in '77? I was at Naha.

I'd take bud greens advice. As far as accu-stats tapes and CDs, I'd recommend getting some of the older tapes. All of the Legends of one-pocket matches are excellent. It's hard to learn a lot from Efren for the simple fact that he thinks so deeply it's nearly impossible to keep up with him. He is, however the best one-pocket player I've ever seen and I think the best of all time.

did anyone say monk ?

I was on a (website)(one pocket) but Bill Stroud had something to do with it. Learn how to practice one-pocket like at the Derby, Break and attempt to run. 5 attempts (max per rack 15 points) Winning Score Alex P was over 45. But you still are going to have a Pro player look at your game. I recommend Gabe Owen and Corey Duel And they do this sort of thing. Banks is another big part as well. Trick shot artist Rossman banks well. mark

First, turn 50. OK, just kidding about that.

Accustats videos are the way to go - I recommend that you get a few that have Freddy "the beard" Bentavegna's (sp) commentating. He's awesome and offers information others don't. He's my fav. Those videos are by far the fastest way to learn many advance moves and shot selections.

Also, Shawn Putnam does a really good job on the mic on a couple of the Action Reports tapes.

Start playing the better players as mentioned earlier for cheap if they'll do it. I fyou show them respect and become friendly, they will offer info to you or at least answer specific questions.

Have fun playing the best pool game out there. And remember, there are multiple choices for every shot, choose one and concentrate on executing that shot - no second guessing when you're down on the shot.

It is called Pro Skill Drills. Volume 6

It has 54 practice drills. It is a book and DVD. It definitely worth having.

Nick endorsed it, but it was produced by Adam Wheeler and Dominic Esposito.

Gamble a lot.... do mental excersizes..... and buy as many 1P vids as you can from (plug) AZBilliards Market Place.

I learned a TON of 1P watching vids of the greats, then I would go out to my table and play BOTH sides equally hard. 1 shot I play wide open firing at everything, on the other side I play much tighter so I can visualize many different shots and moves. FYI the wide open side of me won most times, but never payed off Mr conservative!:D

My practice routine works better if you have a split personality, or Asperger's syndrome.....or schizophrenia...

Willie Joplin videos are the best!!! Get both 1 and 2 and you can knock at least 3 years off your learning curve. I wish he made a banking video. If anyone knows Willie please make the suggestion to him. He is a great banker.
