A fwe years back you could still go across the street without using the crosswalk. I saw a few close calls there.
With the amount of people on the strip at any given time accidents, deaths and normal dramas should be the norm. Things happen and just becuase they happen in Vegas or at a casino shouldnt matter.
Colleges are the same way. Most people think of a place like Stanford,
FSU or Auburn as being safe places. But in reality there are 25,000+ students. Any group of 25k+ is going to have incidents. However if the local papers reported all of them then there would be a major uproar.
I just wish college areas would report crimes like rape and assaults 100%.
Females and males have a right to know what is going on at their school.

When I drove 18 Wheeler Las Vegas was one town I hated to drive in or through, as I always felt people were in a hurry, and would never give you a break to change a lane or transition from a freeway on ramp. People seem like they were on a mission to get some place to sit down at an appointed time, in from of a lucky slot machine, so they would not slow down in traffic. My ex brother in law use to moonlight at one of the ER, he was a physician stationed at Nellis. He said they had a lot of pedestrian, bicyclist, verses car/truck accidents.
The first year the Stratoshere opened, some friends and I were walking back to the Riv when we saw police and EMS vechiles blocking the lanes for an accident.
Apparently, a pedestrian jaywalked and was hit by a car. As, the EMS techs were loading the guy up into the ambulance, one of the policemen was writing something on a pad. He peeled it off and put the paper on the victims chest as they were loading him up.
I asked another policeman what the paper was and he said it was a ticket for jaywalking.
He went on the explain if a person jaywalks or walks against the light in a crosswalk in Vegas and gets hit by a car, it's the pedestrian's fault and they get the ticket.

as I said before they make the tragitys behind the beatiful lights look good, off-strip LV is a trailor park with lots of lights, the people here dont take care of their teeth, go to a 7-11 and look at the people who work there teeth-its ugly, in LA people take care of themselfs, no matter where you park here you get door dings because others have no reguard for other peoples property. The video poker players have it the worst, like heroin junkies, roulett is like weed, some games have a stronger "Hold" than others-which means how hard it is to stop playing them, They have more chapters for GA -gamblers annonmys here than anywhere and beyond that they have support groups for the non gambler of the spouse that meet when the other halfs are out in action, it destroys, you have to live here and pay attention to understand it.
i'm not against gambling, i will put $$ in the fire but not in casinos.

So true in every sense of the word. I've made my trek to Vegas every year of the 90's and now and then in the 2000s to chaperone friends and relatives and occasionally vacation when comped. When the whole aura of excitement fizzles and I become more pragmatic about the whole deal, I would pause in the strip at night and would marvel at all the lights and activity around me. Then I begin to wonder, where do the casinos get all the monies to pay for all the marvels and fantasies in sin city. Of course, the answer is not any rocket science and it's simple . . . GAMBLING PROFIT/PROCEEDS. Naturally, to achieve that, all the games' odds must favor the house else it's bust. And that, shifting the odds to them, they're definitely experts at. No doubt, it's a no win proposition. Of all the times that I've been there, I can't even count the fingers from one hand where I won or did good. And if I did, it went back and then some. My last visit was last spring break and despite the state of the economy, people still seem to find a way to be there. However, I noticed plenty of idle tables and slots even at peak gaming hours. Signs of the times. There is also no more good value quality buffets. The variety of sumptuous buffets use to be my main draw but my last visit was disappointing., I was very disappointed that the buffet places I used to love have more than doubled their prices. Seems like close to $40/person is the norm for the medium to upscale ones. Eating out in neighboring restaurants is not to far different in prices either. Le 'VIVA' is gone.

Heard on Monday that they woke him out of the drug induced coma, and heard this evening that he was responsive to the people around him. Hope to see you back in town soon ED.
I have heard that LV is bad for pedestrian-car accidents many of them fatal.One factor may be the drivers are often distracted by the "sights" on the side of the road.The walking person may be drunk,high,lacking sleep or just in a daze as they wander from casino to casino.Myself i have witnessed many close calls on the streets.I personally detest the place but i do go 1 time a year to play pool.With all the $$ that pours into Sin City could they not afford a few more pedestrian overpasses?
