Hello. I'm in the market for a economically priced tall spectator chair with a drink holder, cushioned seat and back, and a notch for a cue.

I've looked online and it seems like they range from $200 to $800. I'm interested in something much closer to the $200 range. Any suggestions on brands or are they pretty much all the same quality.

Thanks!

I picked mine up on Craigslist. Do a search on "pool tables", they generally show up there.
Good luck in your quest.

Shop Around

I picked up 2 Brunswick chairs for $250 a piece at a local dealer. They retailed for more than twice that, but I asked if they had any used and they had 2 damaged in transit in the backroom that they brought out. The lacquer was chipped on the foot rail on both chairs otherwise they were fine.

player chairs

Check out the Tempo, Trica and Amisco barstool websites. They are manufacturers. They have some very nice alternatives to the traditional player chairs at under $300 a piece. With them, you would have a selection of cushion fabrics and finishes. If you go that direction, you can find a local dealer. Most of those retailers will sell their stuff today at 20-25% off, if you ask for it.

They are on the high end but the chairs offered by Diamond Billiards are worth every penny. They are the best I have ever sat in at a pool room.

If you look at the specs on the page

Width 6 feet
That is, the price is for 3 chairs
They aren't connected.
Why do they call them a unit?
A unit is unsually ONE!!!

1.
a single thing or person.
2.
any group of things or persons regarded as an entity: They formed a cohesive unit.
3.
one of the individuals or groups that together constitute a whole; one of the parts or elements into which a whole may be divided or analyzed.
4.
one of a number of things, organizations, etc., identical or equivalent in function or form: a rental unit; a unit of rolling stock.
5.
any magnitude regarded as an independent whole; a single, indivisible entity.

I'm reluctant to criticize Diamond Billiards but I agree with you about the units. Furthermore, the $1800 price tag is sure to discourage many a buyer regardless of the quality or the number of chairs.....

If the unit is 3 chairs and the price of one unit is $800, one chair is $267.

Now the question is:
Who has the math right according to Diamond - me or JoeyA?

Diamond 's site gets dumber by the minute.

I rest my case :D

Chairs

Not sure where you are, but there's an online auction for a pool room that's closing in the Chicago area in the 'wanted/for sale' section now. There are some nice chairs listed (and a bunch of other stuff I'd like to have)

I believe Diamond's chair 'unit' is 2 chairs connected together with a small table or shelf in the middle, creating one 'unit'. There're pretty sweet, though kind of pricey. The picture obviously shows 3 individual chairs.

The two plus table is what they used to show on the site.
Obviously, the site has been improved

Description on the page in question included the following:
Accessory tray accommodates three extra cues, chalk and powder.
but no picture and no price

So now we have two chairs for $800 or $400 per chair - Accessory tray free

Or, using JoeyA math. two $800 chairs for a total of $1600 plus a tray, presumably for free.

Thank you for your attempt at clarification of what Diamond is selling.:thumbup::thumbup:

You reconfirm my opinion:

Diamond's site gets dumber by the minute.

thanks for the info. I like that Spencer Marston...nice to have a drawer. I've narrowed it down to that one and an HJ Scott chair you can get for about $280.

The HJ Scott has a padded back and seat so I'm thinking it might be a bit more comfortable, but I'm not really sure. If anyone has the HJ Scott spectator chair, I'd be interested in hearing your review.

Here is a link to the chair I was referring to.

Here is an idea for you, how about one of the old style barbers chairs! You will have to customize a drink holder and a cue rest. Sometimes you can find them on CL for around the lower end price your looking to spend. Yeah, they may need some polishing up and recoverd, but it would definately be worth the work in the long run to be able to add that little bit more character to the room.

They are definately not all the same. You can range from the junk at FIM type stores which is put together with single screws, and won't last well if used a lot, to the much more expensive BRunswick chair that goes for around $800, of which you are probably paying some for the name. The better ones will have a much nicer finish, and more importantly will be put together using mortise and tenon joinery which is MUCH stronger and more appropriate for this application. I would look for a nice quality build that doesn't have to be brand name somewhere in the middle.

I have seen the cheaper ones around $130 if you really need to go that route. THey will be useable, they just won't last as long, and will begin to loosen over time.

If you are handy, there are good plans to make these with correct joinery on line for purchase. You can make an $800 style chair for what you would pay for the cheaper chairs, or maybe less if you hunt a little for the materials. I have the plans and they are pretty good. I haven't gotten around to building mine yet, but I plan on making a few Brunswick style chairs for my basement in maple with dark brown leather to match my table.

Good luck

That is definitely what the Diamond 'unit' is and why it is 6' wide. Regardless of how dumb the web site is, they do make some nice furniture. The chairs are a little wider, for those of us who need a little room, and they are nicely padded. Apart from the dumb web site, my recommendation of the furniture stands.

BTW, before anyone starts speculating, I have no connection with Diamond or any supplier. I just like their furniture the best.

I have two (2) chairs for sale. I believe they the Hippopotamus brand. The chairs are genuinely tough & comfy. These definitely deserve a good home & recovering
