Any weekly tournaments in Murfreesboro, TN?

I will be relocating to Murfreesboro, TN soon, and I was wondering if anyone knows of any weekly pool tournaments (at any of the bars, or pool halls) there?

I could (and will) call around to ask, but I thought that maybe I would get some replies (from the locals of the Murfreesboro area) on here.

Can anyone tell me if some of the locals are very strong players?

I hope so, because I love seeing good players, and having good competition.

I am a B player, and would really like to improve my game by playing some much better players.

Thanks for any info about some weekly tournaments, or any other tournaments that are in the area.

I know that JOB's billiard club in Nashville probably has weekly tournaments, but I am more interested in any tournaments that are in Murfreesboro.

Thanks.

If you want a good weekend tournament, Lucky Break in Manchester (about 45 minutes south of Murfreesboro) usually has a good handicapped bar box (Diamonds) nine ball tournament the second Saturday of every month. It also has the side benefit of possibly getting into a money game with the owner, some patsy nicknamed "Hennessee".

They also have a b player and below tourny every Wednesday that is pretty good. Obviously its a lot more entries (around 50 or more) in the winter, but its usually always a good, and good ran, tournament.

I guess that you are referring to Jonathan “Hennessee” Pinegar. I seen him play at JOB's billiard club years ago at the music city 9 ball open. He is such an awesome player. I would need the 6 out and the breaks from him, lol (and I would probably still have no chance). I would like to visit his pool hall in Manchester sometime. I bet it is nice. So there are no local tournaments in Murfreesboro? Thanks.

Very helpful info. Thanks (Snapshot9) for listing all of the pool halls in the area.

You sound like you are living in Nashville, TN! Man you have all the places down. I am going to keep my mouth shut. You already gave the op all the info he needs. Way to go Snap. Don't tell about Vernon Winfrey BL!
Many Regards,

Hey Justin...
Both Fat Willie's and the M'Boro billiard club have tournaments...don't know what nights tho. You should be able to call 'em and find out.
Both those spots have have some really good players...even a pro or two :D

If you are ever in the Nashville area, hit me up via pm...I'm always looking for someone to shoot with... I hang out at Chandler's, more so known as Melrose Billiards on Franklin Pike.
Welcome to the area!!
Clint

I am pretty sure MBC has weekly tourns . That is a pretty nice room, you will like it.

That is nice to know. Thanks for your help. I just really want to play some better players. There are no good players to practice with where I have been living in Southern Illinois. I really want to get back into the game (and playing good again), but it is difficult without some good competition. Thanks everyone for all of your help.

Can any of you tell me if any of these pool halls are in really bad parts of town (bad as in unsafe to walk around in)? I know that JOB's billiard club is kinda in a sketchy part of town, but I never had any problems walking around there. I do not have a car, and I will be riding public transit (the city bus) to these places, so I just do not want to get myself in a very bad area of town. I know that there are no really safe area's, but maybe you could just tell me which of these pool rooms have the nicest crowds (as in not too many drug dealers, and gangs hanging out there). I have only ever been to JOB's in the past, so I do not know about any of the other pool halls in the area. Thanks for your help.

Funny(or not so much), today....a couple of tables down from me, I overheard a friend talking about having his car broken into at JOB's on league night just last week. I know of at least a dozen more people the same thing has happened too... Damn shame because JOB's really supports the game and all those involved, but it's in one ^%$*hole of an area. That's just a fact... You are totally safe inside, but you better not have anything in your car you value, or you're just asking for it...
I wish they'd move to a better location...:(

I don't believe 8Balls even exists anymore...it's in a very bad area too.
Very ethnic(gangs) and you will be looked at as an outsider...regardless of your demeanor and intent...

Both Fat Willie's and the MBC are totally safe...you'll find lots of good players at either one of those two joints

Yeah, JOB's is in a pretty bad part of town, but I am sure that there are probably much worse parts of Nashville than the Madison area. I stayed at the motel acrosss the street (very dumpy motel), and walked around that area a lot (in the day time), and nobody bothered me. I really love JOB's. I have not been there since it changed owners awhile back (not sure when). I wonder if it still looks the same. All I know is that Alex Brick (I think that is his name) still runs his cue repair shop there. Thanks for the other info about MBC and Fat Willies being safe.

JOB's is pretty much the same as it has been for a long while. It is in a rough area but that much real estate in an upscale spot would be hard to fade.

MBC is on a main drag in M'boro and is pretty easy to get to and as safe as anywhere IMO. You will meet my buddies Billy Young and Big Jeramie if you hang out at MBC, they can steer you into playing about any level player you want to play.

Thanks. It will be nice to see, and shoot with some good players.
