Are there any videos of willie mosconi running a lot of balls? I watched the video of Irving crane running 150 which is a high quality video

and I watched the Jimi Caras vs Willie Mosconi video but Willie barely shot in this one.

I find it hard to believe there is no video of perhaps the best pool player of his time playing straight pool and there is a video of Irving Crane.

I find it hard to believe myself. Only thing I'd add to that is that it isn't like Crane was chopped liver among his peers. His name might not carry the same mystique as Willie Mosconi's (as far as old-time players, maybe only Greenleaf's name does), but the old-timers that I have spoke to hold him in extremely high regard; perhaps higher than most of his contemporaries.

It is a shame that no video exists of Mosconi though.

I certainly am not downgrading Irving Crane as a champion. Isn't Omar Sheriff's character in "the Baltimore Bullet" nicknamed the deacon after Irving Crane? I would have loved watching all these great players from the 50's and 60's play. I wish there was more video, because the old timers are slowly leaving us.

If your'e really interested in seeing some of the greatest pool players/hustlers from the 40's - 50's and 60's (Willie Mosconi, Minnesota Fats, Irving Crane, Cowboy Jimmy Moore, Luther Wimpy Lassiter, Joe Balsis, Jimmy Caras, U.J. Puckett and Babe Cranfield) then the 5 DVD set featuring these players participating in a round robin tourney of 7-Ball, 9-Ball and 8-ball might be worth your consideration.....$24.95, includes S&H ;)

I have those also, I friend recorded the TV shows onto VHS and asked me to convert them to DVD, which I did (editing out all commercials) and of course I made copies for myself.:D

At the time these matches were played all of the players were well past their prime, except Fatties mouth of course, but all in all they are still entertaining to watch.

Hey guys, here's a legendary match for you guys to feast your eyes on, (Although unfortunately there's no straight pool in it) but it's Willie Mosconi Vs Minnessota Fats that was hosted by Howard Cosell (Spelling?) where they play 9-ball, 8Ball & Rotation.

Here's a home video of Willie giving some instruction and sharing some of his knowledge on Straight Pool to a group of guys.

I must say that I thoroughly enjoyed the video of Mosconi and Fats. I was seriously rolling on the floor when I heard Fats say... "If he plays me for cash he ain't go no chance on earth, he's got a better chance of swimming from here to Arabia underwater" THATS IS CLASSIC!!!! Thanks so much for that!

I'm grateful to one of our members for sharing those old videos with me. I'd only mention names if permissions were granted or acknowledged. :)

Anyway, in one segment ("R" rated coming up) Fats was egging Mosconi into playing a cash One Pocket game. He first referred to the game as One Pocket, then One Hole, and then ..... which ABC missed and which had me rolling on the floor, He said something to the effect... " I'll play you some One Snatch, a touwzand a game!" Man was that funny.

Hey Guys :)

I'm glad that you enjoyed the links, I couldn't stop laughing at fats half the time, it's a pitty that there aren't as many characters in the game as there were back then, but then again, there are still a few great characters still gracing the pool halls today and it's always great to see and experience :)

It goes to show one thing though, this is only a small example of how good Willie was, but it would be awesome to see a video where he makes a big run, as I think that Willie's offical highest ever run is 609? as he mentions this in the home video clip, but I'[m not sure if this can be verified by anyone or not, and so, to me, 526 is still the highest run :)

I have been wondering something here guys.... Does any of you have the tape or DVD of the Accu-Stats "High Run Series"? (Either series 1 and/or 2)

I have been looking on the Accu-Stats site and I see that they don't have 'em available anymore, and they're not available on DVD, but I'm wondering if anyone has these tapes and has possibly been able to have them transferred to DVD? :)

The reason I'm asking is that I have not yet seen any video clips of Willie Mosconi putting in a high run of 100+, I know that he had a fast rhythm around the table once he got going, but I thought it would be awesome to see how he played when he really got going, as well as to see other high runs like Mike Sigel's 150 & out against Mike Zuglan in '93? :)

What I'm wondering is, is there anyone out there who has any of these tapes or footage of Willie putting in a high run and be able to upload it to Stage6 or Google Video, etc? :)

Any replies info is appreciated :)

Willie

P.S. The 150 & out by Irving Crane in the "Clash Of The Titans" match is a always a treat to watch :)

i and a group of players had the good fortune of having Willie mosconi give 2 exibitions in our small pool room (6 tables) 5x10 billiard,5x10pool & 4-4.5x9`s...on palisade ave in jersey city....Fregara`s pool room.....willie played our best player at the time larry shalis..Willie ran 100+ balls on the 5x10....larry had a high run of 50 on that table (not on that day)( willie would have been in his 40`s)we had about 50 local players in the room( i sat 6` from the table)anybody on this forum remember those visits by willie at that long gone pool room....sad to say we never took any photos or even thought to ask for an autograph....we were in awe of willie and probably afraid of him....he never smiled ,but we didn`t care...you would think brunswick would have been taking 8mm of him during those years..and with todays technology they could be cleaned up those films..

I believe the story is that there was a fire in a warehouse that stored much of the film of Mosconi. I think that information came from Willie's wife. It's been awhile since I heard that, so I may have some details wrong. In any case, there supposedly was footage that had been destroyed.
