Don't mind playing it, but I can't stand to watch great players playing it. I don't think a game with just 15 balls should take 2 hours to finish.

Much rather watch 3 cushion. Incredible artistry there.

It is the best game, I play it well, I hate it, I'll never stop playing it though.

There are so many strategies and moves in the game, you never stop learning. As far as it being slow, make a mistake against a good player and you will most likely be racking in less time than it takes to run a rack of 10 ball.

I dont like One Pocket at all.. its so boring for me...

Am I alone? :)

One-pocket is an acquired taste. Once you develop an enthusiasm for rotation, 8-ball, straight pool, banks, and other pocket billiard games, one-pocket kind of incorporates all of them.

For me, it's like the difference between checkers and chess. You have to understand chess and all its pieces in order to enjoy the game, but if you don't understand it, the offense and defense, strategies, et cetera, it would be like watching pain dry. :D

Usually, it's the pool aficionados who gravitate to one-hole. It's one of the better games to gamble with, too. ;)

I like watching pool but I usually cannot watch much one-pocket. Playing is a different story.

How about this one...I think it's exciting.

....and shots like this...

You'll see many shots at one-hole and 3-cushion that are very fancy..
...NOT because they're showing off...
...but because the shot is necessary

I'm also a big fan of 1P; I love the fancy shots. Here are a few short videos I shot for various threads over on onepocket.org - mostly slomo, of course, but without all my typical fancy music and editing and such. ;)

You make a lot of sense Cory, except for one thing..Learning to play one pocket, as early as you possibly can, will give you a leg up on ALL the other far less demanding games !

PS..Its hard to believe, that the 'liker's' are only ahead of the 'hater's' by about 7 to 1 ?...I would have thought it would be more like 50 to 1 !..But then we do have a whole lot of 'newbies' (ie; non-gambling player's) voting. :p :p :p

Sorry to skew your demographic analysis, I'm a newbie that doesn't gamble and I voted that I like 1 pocket :p

Perhaps its because I'm a chess player (sort of), perhaps its because I'm thinking that i have an open mind, or perhaps its that not all newbies can be pigeonholed into non-gambling league-playing nits.... :)

To be honest, I've only really played 1 pocket once (thanks, Sean!) and I really enjoyed the challenge. I'm a pretty crappy league player, but I enjoyed learning a little about the game, as much as could be said in one evening. I'm gonna have to get a buddy of mine (who really likes 14.1) to play some with me. Like with everything else, time is the challenge.

One Pocket requires the broadest set of skills and knowledge of any game in pool. The object ball's positions on the table can really make a difference in winning or losing . A lot hinges on the "boring" safety play that seeks to move the balls to an advantageous position while denying the opponent an adequate response. Quite challenging and far from boring if you understand exactly what all the little 'bunt' shots are trying to achieve.

Looks like a good time for the one-pocket haters to circle the wagons....
....you be in enemy territory.

:duck:

No worries. They have plenty of time to get out while the 1p players decide what to do!

I like it for a bit, but bunting can get old after a while. Unless the game is good, I'm not a big fan of watching it.

I love to play it and watch in person but don't really care to watch on stream although I have watched few on stream

I was a very good chess player when I was a youngster. Maybe that's why I like the game so much, even though my skill level at it is very low. I could suffer through a race to 11 in 9 or 10 ball and that would be it for me. I could play a game to 150 in 14.1 and be willing to try 2 out of three. I could play one-pocket all day long and get beat every time and never get tired of it. If nothing else, at least you know you'll get to get out of your chair.

I like One Pocket. Too bad I live at northern Finland and here nobody knows the game.
I play some cash games against top Finnish players when I can find one who plays it(when I'm traveling)
Lost first time couple months ago when my opponent was on zone. He did not miss a ball what he tried while night and he started shoot sell outs even... Not a single miss.
I did get even later different tournament trip.

I also loved watch Efren drilling through One Pocket world 10 years ago.. He was unbelievable. Nowadays I like watch Alex.

Alex is fun to watch, even if he's playing straight pool, the most boring game in the world ! :sorry:..Too bad there is no one to play in your home country.......If you could travel more often, you could be the European distributor for one pocket !
Everyone, (except one out of ten) would very grateful to learn the best game on a pool table!..Take that Mr. Banks :p :D

I've watched the alex vs scott frost 1p match on youtube.

Why don't they play again!??

I hated 1p for the first 15 years or so that I played pool

then I actually watched a high level match and was hooked almost immediately. It's the best game by a lot.

I really think the problem that people have with it is that they equate pool with simply pocketing balls. Once you realize that you can make a successful shot (gain an advantage) without pocketing a ball, you start to see the game.. and if you like shotmaking, the best (most creative) shots I've ever seen were during 1p matches.
