I can't remember the last time i hit a ball.
I really can't.
I want to go out and play now a days, but just can't bring my self to do it.:(
I guess I'm scared :D .
I think the reason i quit playing that day was because i was missing too many balls i should never miss.

Any suggestions?

Jon
If you're seriously asking...

Read "The Tao of Sports" then just go play for the sake of playing. Do your best and if you miss, well ... you miss. There are more important things in life than putting balls in a pocket.

any of you ever wonder why you play this game anymore? do you ever play out of sheer boredom? I've hit kind of a "dry patch" lately and just have no desire to play this game...at all! it may just be cause nothing is going on around here, but the game has gotten really boring for me. anyone else feel the same way?

I've quit for the summer. I'll play in the fall, but I haven't had any desire to put in the work to play really well for about a year. I'll play a partners tournament here, and maybe some major "league tourney" there, but I need to get lucky and survive a few rounds to have any chance.

It's a downward spiral that I have no "get up" to climb back. Terrible, yes, but that's what happens when you've reached certain goals, and don't have the time, energy, or patience to up the ante. Basically, I suck.

I HOPE you are not saying that your BS is lonely and needs to visit Georgia for the winter?!?!? :D

Absolutely not!! I take my baby out every month or so to various tournaments.

No, never.

There is always something to do. If I am playing by myself, I can try and set new high run records. If I miss a ball inexplicably, then there is something to work on.

<edit>

I play because I love the game and I will continue playing because of that.

Nice post ... I guess you ain't half-bad for a Guiness drinker ;)

I haven't lost interest since starting to play more seriously after getting a table 10 years ago. Heck, I've only missed playing/practicing 3 or 4 days in a row a very few times over the years. Of course I may not be normal ... I was the kid who'd throw baseballs onto the roof and catch them as they fall for hours and hours day after day ... some might call me "obsessive". These days I will play pool just to see the balls drop, and to see how tight I can play angles and weight ... watching a 'let-your-stroke-out' curving 3 rail shape-shot drop the cue ball into an opening 3" wide makes me smile every single time. I love this game and it looks like nothing will drive me away.

Sorry I can't be more help Duke, but I'm with Cameron here, the answer is 'no'.

I enjoy playing pool, but I am most interested in the gambling side of the game. I dont care what anybody says about gambling, the fact of the matter is that I wouldnt play pool near as much as I do if there wasnt cash involved. If it isnt a decent tournament or a gambling match, I lose interest pretty quickly. I love to play pool but I dont play for the love of the game. I go where the action is or where I can watch action. I am not that good of a player but I will match up playing one pocket with most anyone in my area. There are lots of people in west kentucky, northwest tennesee, southern illinois, and southeast missouri (my area) that can beat my brains out...hell some of them post on here...but I love gambling and matching up and being around gambling. It is a passion and a hobby. Thank god I am a school teacher and dont make much money, or I would probably have a serious habit.

I think some people get too wrapped up in pool. I know guys who never leave the pool room or every conversation they have revolves around pool. Like I said, I love the game, but I often wonder what the hell are these guys thinking. Is their life that bankrupt? Go on a date, see a movie, take a walk, get a dog, go fishing.

Just my 2 cents worth. Probably will get ripped for it...dont really care! lol

Yeah. They call it summer.

I have played only about 3 games of pool since the end of April. I am starting to get the itch....

If you are serious about this...

go to another place to play than your "home" pool hall, forget about pool and shoot some snooker instead...you'll see that missing easy shots is not that rare. Then go back to pool and see how your consentration is better and that actually has been your reason for missing those shots.

Well here is my take.

Understand that I am a pool junkie, but I get occassionally get burned out too.

I take a week off. That sometimes help. Because face it at certain times you have stalled in development, let's face it there are certain people that are stronger or weaker and that really doesnt change much or at all.

I just have started playing (this year) quite a bit of one pocket. Gambling cheap. I like it as it is much easier to match up and because I am the biggest fish I get a lot of games.

Try a new game.

I've had days, even weeks when i felt like that. Times when it just seemed like it might be time to move on. So, I walked away for a while. But, eventually, that itch always come back. And ironically, when it does, I usually find that when I return, I play a little better. As a result, I fall even more in love with the game.
My suggestion, take a break. It'll give new life to your love for the game.
