Anyone else ever pull out an old cue, play great with it, and suddenly doubt which is your favorite?

Uh…….my answer is simple……Nope, there’s a reason why I haven’t any doubts.
I rotate my cues & play with a different cue every session. I have a 6x12 cue case.

The cues that I own and don’t carry stay at home for darn good reasons. Any cue
I select from my case is my favorite that day but tomorrow, it will be a different one.
So really your answer is yes. You really don't have a favorite.

Well, like I wrote, the cue that I pick…..the one that will be in my hands……is my favorite cue at the moment.

Tomorrow might be another cue and then that becomes my favorite…..at that moment…and if the cue I pick
winds up being the only cue I could ever have, I wouldn’t be disappointed. Labeling something as a favorite
should mean the cue should stand out or perform better. Perhaps some day, if my shoulders would allow, I’ll
play with all the cues in the same session and see if a particular cue stands out more than the other pool cues.

If you own numerous nice cues like some of us here likely do, if you’re like me, when you get in a slump and not playing well (although we know the cue has nothing to do with it) that is when I often switch cues, and it quite often can pull me out of that slump, at least for a while. It’s all mental of course.
I know it may sound crazy, but I've known people that would change their shoes to help them pull out of a slump.

I should know, I'm one of them.

I carry several pair of shoes when I go to a room and have went to my car and changed shoes many times.

BTW, I started carrying extra shoes due to back problems. My back would start to hurt. I would change to a different type shoe and it would ease my back and foot pain for a short time.

Don't know if any of it is mental or if it's purely a back pain issue, but I've known others that would change their shirt etc....

Takes all kinds.

I normally play with a Pechauer Pro series cue with a P+Pro LD laminated shaft, and I love it. I also recently bought a Keith Josey cue, and really like it as well. Then, just for grins I brought out a Schmelke I haven't played in a year or two and was suddenly intrigued. They're all different, but I play just about the same with all of them, and they all feel great. I hate to go back and forth during League, but can't honestly say which is my favorite now or if there's one with which I play the best. The Pechauer is beautiful, the Josey has a conical taper and looks different sighting down the shaft, and the Schmelke is just a sweet hitting bargain. Anyone else find themselves questioning which cue is your favorite?
Most of the time a cue change doesn't help... matter of fact it will normally hurt until an adjustment is made.

Having said that, I do change to a cue that is butt heavy when health problems cause my stroke arm to shake moreso than usual.

I prefer a cue in the 18.25 oz to 18.5 oz that is forwardbalanced, but when certain problems arise I reach for a 20ish oz cue that is butt heavy.

It's not just a mental thing for everyone.

Any of your cues are a favorite of everyone that has a pool cue brain. Not not so much because of who made them, but moreso because of their specs.... more specifically the shaft to butt weight ratio, the overall balance and the butt diameter and lastly the joint type.

Those are deal breakers for me.

No my fav is still my AE but I do like to play the espiritu plain jane quite often.

My back is F###ED with a capitol F. I have several shoes and on a long session I will switch them. I have tennis shoes. I have Crocs, I have a thin pair of sandals made with tire tread bottoms (solerebels in ethiopia) and I have a pair of xero barefoot shoes. If I'm going out for league I will take only one pair, but if I'm in the basement playing for long hours, I will switch from one to the other after several hours. Sometimes I'll stand around in my socks for a few minutes. It honestly sucks but it's the only way I've found to play for long hours. Crocs are great for cement, but once they are about a year old, the foam starts not being as supportive.

I've tried several work boots and such in the past.

On league nights, I wear the Xero barefoot shoes with the insole in them. They are designed to be used with or without the insole. Your feet do what they need to in them without being pinched or anything and they are super flexible. Nothing to do with a slump for me, but just a fact of life at this point.

At long multi day tournaments I take them all and switch when needed.

Anyone that owns multipal cues and says that they don’t change from time is lying through their teeth.

I play with a dufferin house cue with a narrow tip when I play on my snooker table or a dufferin snooker cue. For league I play with an old (~20 year old) Showcase Billiards sneaky pete. I started out many years ago with a Schmelke. The Schmelke is pretty and hits well but for whatever reason I play very inconsistently with. I would rather play with either an 18 oz or 22 oz Cuetec knockoff eliminator cue both of which I use for traveling and hard use. I must be one of the few people that likes these clad sticks. Really I am not cue dependent. I suck with all cues equally.

I used to be a Pechauer dealer, but we parted ways shortly after they came out with their "low deflection" shaft that I found to be VERY "squirty" ... They were radially consistent, but the deflection was BAD!!! I looked at their online "diagram" and noticed why they didn't achieve low deflection. I haven't look at their site in several years but I'll go look at it in a moment or two to see if they improved their design [appropriately]

I just now looked at their site [see my prior reply to this thread] and couldn't find any diagram/schematic ... so you're on your own. You could always buy one and disassemble it to see how it is made ... or just buy another well received brand.
