Hehe
Not a huge Earl fan, but i agree with lots of he`s thoughts about how pro pool should be.
They are not doing that. One thing you can guarantee is that they will not increase the length of matches. They want 5 fast matches to blow through each day that are just short enough not to lose the interest of the general public.
Moving to a 10-foot table would slow down the matches, moving to 10-ball would slow down the matches, moving to a race to 9 would slow down the matches. They are NOT going to do that, they wont even consider that because they are producing this for TV. They want it fast paced.
Switching to 10-ball alone would slow down the matches, I think they would even refuse that. 8-ball games are just as fast as 9-ball for the most part though and the game is hugely popular in America AND Europe. 8-ball likely has more casual fans then 9-ball on either side of the pond and it would make sense to switch to that.
You are most probably right on all these points Celtic. Unfortunately you are right for all the wrong reasons - or rather the promotors are wrong.
All this talk about making pool more tv friendly is alianating the fanbase pool does have in favour og the odd chance that a change in format
might bring in new viewers - a logic that i don`t see at all.
Having pool reach a bigger audience has almost nothing to do with long or short races, 8, 9, 10 ball, 14.1 or 1 pocket. It has to do with recruitment of younger players, wich means that pool tables and instructions must be available to kids in youth clubs and billiard clubs in places where there is no alcohol, cigarettes and gambling.
"clever" marketing people can stay the f***k away from pool! Bonus ball was a prime example of trying to make pool into something i and most pool players i know would hate!
We already have sports with stupid team names, equally stupid shirts, overpayed idiot couches and more drama outside the sports arena, than on it.
I like pool because it`s NOT a team sport, there is none of the stupid stuff that comes with the big team sports like football, soccer, basketaball etc. I suspect I`m not the only one...
