anyone ever get a letter from Joe Hand ?

No i never showed UFC or any pay per view. But they seem real intent that they will sue me and I can hardly afford any legal fees nor the headaches right now.

they usually have there ducks in a row. You had to of shown a UFC fight. I did once and it ended up costing me $10,000 to settle. He told my attorney that was the smallest amount he had ever settled on. What they do is hire people to go around the different establishments and video tape you showing the fight. they will tell you that they have video tape and a signed affidavid form someone that witnessed it. Thing is, it's a federal charge and you are facing a $100,000 fine and jail time. My attorney said you cannot afford to go to federal court and fight it. It easier to settle.

yah i showed a fight and i am willing to pay something fair. but the are asking for $12000. I know bar owners that have paid $4-$5k and what they are doing is basic extortion by law.

I totally agree that the 12k is way too much, but on the other hand if I owned something and charged people a certain prices to use/show it and some people were making money off me for free I would do the same thing.

Also if I am one of the bars paying the high prices in the first place and the guy down the street is stealing my customers and not paying for the fight I'm glad when it catches up to him, cause the next fight I know that I'll have my crowd back and making up the money for the fight.

it is the exact same situation with music as well. dont play music in your (commercial) establishment unless you have paid licensing fees or they can and will happily sue your ass off. (and they have scouts actively looking for violators)

there was a bar/poolroom near me that recently got taken to court for simply having unauthorized paintings of album cover art on their walls. the bar lost the case and was subsequently shut down permanently.
