anyone ever used Wenge used in cues?

I just finished a cue with Wenge because I had some and wanted to try it. The cue plays fine and I don't think you will have any playability issues with the wood and it looks good (I don't think it's ugly at all) when finished but I don't think I will use it again. It's a grainy, rough wood and, in my opinion, Rosewood, Ebony or Cocobolo look better if you need a dark wood and are easier to work with. I brush on my finish while the lathe is spinning and use finishing epoxy because I'm not set up to spray toxic stuff in my house. With most woods I can get by with 2-3 coats, it took 4 coats with the Wenge but once it's sealed it's fine. I would go ahead and give it a try and make your own judgement.
 
Wenge is frequently used for Russian billiards cues. Basically in the butterfly design. But I use Wenge in a crown design too. I have ended this Russian billiards cue yesterday (Six !!! recut on the handle and three on the shaft). Only the covering needs to be made.

Wenge behaves stably if it is well dried and aged. I very much recommend to use pieces with maximum straight grain because unstraight grain can be unexpectedly deformed even through long time. Therefore straight grain or a core. The biggest problem in a covering of Wenge. The decision has Correctly told cueman to use epoxy, but I would recommend usual not fast epoxy with intermediate sanding next day.

I heard that Wenge is brought in the "Red book of the nature", therefore offers of it soon will are limited. Has somebody the information on this? Thanks.

And I thought my cue was fancy! :rolleyes:
But still I wouldn't want to trade it, I already love it too much! The spliced shafts really play top-notch. I took out the weight-bolts of the cue and with the FAT (over 5oz.) shaft you made for me it weights 20oz. with a very nice forward-balance. It hits so hard and stiff, it's almost obscene - everything else now feels soft like butter to me :D

I made a little video last week to test my new camera and you can really hear the loud and ugly noise it makes on every hit - I love it! :D
