Anyone got an Omen Cue?

Wondering what you think of their shafts...
And what kind/length of taper do ya have on there? I have his order form, and the default seems to be 9" -- which sounds a bit short in comparison to all those double digit tapers I hear elsewhere...but I'm assuming this contributes to the solid hit of the cue, so I don't want to change it...

Need insight.

Thanks,
- Joaquin.

Also, I'd love to see some pics of it, of course... :)
Ringwork is also a point of interest...

Joaquin,

I had a OMEN JB cue and WOW!!!!!! I put a hard layer'd tip on the cue, for better CB control on the break, but wow, i could use the cue to play with too, and it was nice! I still wish i had that cue but oh well, live n learn.

As for the shaft, i like the stiff hit of a shaft, so hence the reason why i loved the way the OMEN played and broke. If you like the hit of the Omen cues, i'd say just leave it as IS.

Thanks. Thing is, I've never hit with one :(
Not sure if I like it or not....

I know I lean toward a stiff shaft...but not sure if that means "Omen stiff." Lol.

my omen

hi.. i've got a omen on its way to usps today.. :) mr pete ohman told me that 9" taper is lively, but he does do other tapering to ur request.. u can ask for 16+ growth rings shafts for 50 bucks more.. i'll post pictures of the rings he selected for my cue, as soon as i figure out how to stick them here.. haha..

here's the pictures! its a cocobolo ring with maple and green slots.. :) the rings were decided by him.. i've hitted with a omen couple of weeks back.. hits stiff and has very good feedback.. hits so sweet tt it gave me goosebumps.. can't wait for mine to arrive!

Heh. Nothin' like receiving a new cue in the mail...

Thanks for posting the pics and enjoy the new Omen!

I have an Omen J/B and love it. pic of the cue can be found here.

When i was talking with Pete during ordering he sent me dozens of photos of various cues during different stages of construction. When I get home from work this afternoon I will try to put some on here. I think they look great, similar to a Southwest or Coker and probably play just as well. I'll see what I can do....

Thanks. I'm starting to get all those pics sent to me by Pete, too...lol
Guy's a monster in the customer service department. Daily contact (unlike some other guys, who I know are hard to get a hold off regularly). In fact, its almost amazing that HE is the one to constantly email the CUSTOMER all sorts of ideas and questions instead of the other way around! Lol. I think its friggin' great.

Yeah I like his cues designs but for my next cue I would like to get a wrapless cue. I have just not come up with a design concept that I like yet with varying wood to wood combos, handle area rings/inlays, etc, etc. But its my own fault as I have not taken the time to design something. If I did get a standard pointed cue I would probably get one from Pete.

Pete is in the process of building me a cue with my birthstones. it is burl with white holly points with peridots. As for the shafts, Pete has made me a custom shaft for every cue I have ever purchased. I just like them better. I'm not sure what the taper is I think it is called a pro taper and all my shafts are longer than average.
I also own an omen from about 1979, so you see Pete has been building custom cues for quite sometime. To me he is an artist.

Pete definitely deserves an A+++++++ in the customer service department. He kept me informed every step of the way with pictures to prove!

I also have pictures of my local makers cue in the process of being built. Thanks for reminding me I will have to dig those up and check em out. Maybe post it.

i would say to stop by his booth at Valley forge this year.. but i dont think he will be there.. he has told my relative he wont be there.. i dont know if this means he himself wont be there but maybe associates will be there.. or no booth or pete or noboby.. i dont know exactly.. but when he is there he always has a 9 foot pool table and lets you try just about every cue..

Pete is fanactic to deal with and a great person to talk to..

Hey Chris,
Pete won't be up at Valley Forge this year nor any of his associates. He will be at the Derby City Classic next month tho. I think he will be at DCC to play and show his cues...

I bought one of Pete's Grey Ghost J/B cues from Ellen Van Buren in April and all I can say is that it is a FANTASTIC J/B cue!!! I can actually jump with this cue comfortably. If you're tall, this is the jump cue for you because it is about 6" longer than the usual jump cues out there, which means a lot.

The phenolic tip on this baby also helps me since breaking has got to be the weakest part of my game.

I wanted to chime in here and say that I also think that Pete Ohman offers EXTREMELY good customer service. Without going into my story, lets just say that he was very pleasant to deal with, quick, and did excellent work. He refinished my cue for nothing. I have the jump/break. I absolutley love it. It hits very hard, and looks beautiful. Mine has a phenolic tip, but I had a second shaft made with a water buffalo leather tip. Both are awesome. I've broke over 26 mph with the phenolic tip (cue ball center table on that one!!!!) Sorry I don't have any pictures. My friend liked my cue so much she bought one the next year at the Valley forge show. Sadly, her's is a little nicer than mine, a fact I can't seem to get past.

I also spent plenty of time trying out the playing cues. I tried a very nice hitting 60" model that played great. All of their cues have a fairly stiff hit. I am used to a Predator shaft, so I felt that their cues deflected more than average. It could have just been that I am used to my Predator. But the quality of hit is excellent. Very nice workmanship overall. I didn't find the taper to be anything but comfortable, although I have large hands.

I would HIGHLY recommend Omen cues. Also, if you like Predator shafts, Pete will get a blank and match it up for you (I think...) Real nice guy.

Hope this helps,

KMRUNOUT

Omen Cue

Here is one that I picked up last year. Plays well, although I admit I bought it because of its looks. The ring-work and figuring in the cocabolo (cocobolo?) are amazing. Pete's experience and attention detail really shine. Very good buy for the price.

Ranger that is an awesome cue thanks for the pics. I just bought a break cue with the ivory Hoppe ring and love the way it plays. The tips had been replaced before i got it so no phenolic tips. Again awesome cue.
