Anyone had any experience using Champion Mercury ultra cloth

My Dealer recommend Champion Mercury ultra backed cloth. Is this a decent cloth and has anyone ever used it or played on it. I can get it rather cheaply. I was wanting Champion tour edition but he said it is thin and plays really fast and cost twice as much. Simons 860 was what I really looked at but he thinks with the table in a building and the constant climate change that the Mercury would hold up better. Any advice Appreciated

I have Championship Mercury Ultra on my table. It’s also what our most reputable state tournament director uses. They play fast and everybody tends to love it.

I don’t believe the version he uses (or that I have) is with the backing. My understanding is that the backing is popular on some bars because it greatly increases durability...BUT it takes even the fastest cloth and turns it dog slow.

I told a local pool hall owner his tables were slow. He said he used the same felt “Statewide Billiards” does. I asked if he got it with the backing, he said yes. I said, well there you go.

They offer just Mercury as well maybe with the backing , The rep told me that would be the best to dollar ratio for a home table, alot cheaper than Simons . Matt how long have you had yours

I’ve had mine about 4 years. Day 1 it was too fast. A few weeks later it played more natural. It’s still faster now than all the bar tables in my city. I’m due to refer now. I’ve worn a hole in where I break.

Simonis 860 will last literally forever in a non commercial environment. Any cloth is going to be effected by climate. Divide the cost by 5 or 10 years and Simonis well worth it

Championship Mercury Ultra is the most used cloth in league and still on
bar tables. If you are in a humid weather state and use a de humidifier
during the summers, it will stay fast.
I have also used Champion tour edition on my house table and even
though it was very very fast, almost to fast as it takes awhile for the
sheen to wear off. In that time, it was almost a nightmare as it seemed
you putted more than stroked, seemed like cue ball skidded more after
contact when using english. After about 1,500 games, it seemed to start
playing decent, but, still was totally faster and different than any league
playing or tournament table.
If you shoot in a league or amateur tournaments, i would think about
staying with mercury ultra.
My opinion only.

buy cheap get cheap. decide in advance what you want out of your table.

Yes, I'd imagine he prob asked something like, what's the best cheapest cloth that will last the longest?

As stated earlier in this thread, Simon is at home lasts a long time. I am prob 12-15 yrs with it on my home table.

The price difference is a single little tournament win. Gotta practice on what you will play on.

Get good worsted. This stuff is damn good for the $$:https://www.amazon.com/CPBA-Competition-MG-700-Worsted-Professional/dp/B07PHXV4Q8?th=1&psc=1 I've seen it cheaper on Ebay. A lot of Asian events use it. Basically Chinese Simonis. In a home setting it will last a LONG time.

My Son ended up going with the Championship Mercury Ultra in Tournament Blue. They just got that color in , I had not heard of it until my Dealer recommended it to me and said with just us playing on it that it would last a longtime. The rep at the billiard place were it was ordered told me that he has that same cloth on his table at home and has had it a couple of years and really liked it . He said he had Simons on it before that was about years old and he saved it for for future use but really like the Mercury ultra . The price was sweet and I believe it will be worth a try . I went in to order Simons and he talked me into the Championship cloth . The table is in a outside building and it will be alot of up and down climate , to hot now and will Prolay be cold then. But we will see

No just the Mercury Ultra and the sales lady said that they just got Tourny Blue in and it looks just like Simons Tourny Blue. The Building is not Finished yet and we have quite a bit to do to it . My Son is saving up to finish the inside and we thought that the cheaper cloth would be the best bet until it is done . It could be a few months until it is finished as everything is so expensive. If we don't like it ( it has to be better than the cloth on it now ) when he gets it finished inside he can them put Simons and also he wants new pockets . Nothing wrong with the old ones he just wants a lighter color to match the table more. So He got a heck of a deal on the Championship cloth , well worth the price of admission to try it out. Now just to find someone to install it lol

It will survive one year or longer in a bar. The Ultra on our American Legion table has been on for 3. It's damn good for the money. But like any other cloth, it needs installed correctly. All the valley tables in Vegas used it. But that was some time ago. Not sure what they are using now.

I don’t know if it’s different or if I am. The last install I had done was Mercury Ultra again. For some reason my recent experiences just isn’t as fast as I remember it being.

I know this thread is old, any chance on getting an update on the cloth?
It’s good cloth. It will mark up fast with any of the poor quality ball sets. Much less of those white burn marks with premium quality balls. On a 7, with live cushions, it’s fast. Will have to “ kill “ the cue ball on many shots.

If you've played on 860 in really humid/sticky conditions you kinda get the feel of MU. Good cloth but not as fast as worsted. Doesn't 'pill' as easy as regular woolens either. Good cloth for the money. Best bar-box cloth there is imo.
