Anyone have a compound taper SHAFT not the BUTT

My Viking Cue has a 12.25 mm shaft that narrows to 11.5 mm and then back to 12.25 mm at the tip. I am wondering should I change out for a 12mm or 11.75 mm protaper shaft or should I go down to 11.5 mm or go up to 12.25 mm. Just need some ideas and some reasons for your recommendation.

Sounds like somebody sanded it down in the stroking/bridging area.

Did it come like that new or is it a previously-owned cue?

I purchased it at the pool hall that I worked as a teenager 48 years ago. So it could have been slightly used.

It sat for 40 years out of 48 years. It had a ever so slight 600 grit a couple of times. Over that time

Almost all pool shafts have compound taper . They have 3 or more angles from the tip to the joint.
Most are gradual from tip to the middle . And two or more angles from the middle to the joint.
Most butts have ONE angle . Some have curved taper . Some have two to three angles .
But, MOST have one angle . In the old days, .835 joint going up to 1.275 at the bottom was really popular. These days around .840 to 1.250.

Conical pool shafts are not uncommon. Those might have one angle .
They are way too tough to play with imo .

Very helpful in understanding what may be going on with it. Now I have to figure out what diameter I want for my Cue Stick Shaft and tip.

So I finally decided what to buy. I purchased another Viking Cue and decided on 3 Shafts. 12.25mm Vikore, 12mm V-Pro, and 11.75mm V-Spin!
