Does anyone have any good stories about Gary "Bushwacker" Nolan? Many people feel that he was one of the top 9-ball money players of the 1970s and 80s.

He always has awesome cues for sale and a super nice guy. You ask that like he's not an active member of the forum.

I heard a story about a tournament that involved champagne if I remember correctly. I heard Bushwacker won the tournament that required the players to consume vast quantities off the bubbly. Anyone here remember that event? hiccup!

Gary,
Can you confirm or deny about 15-20 years ago you were playing a strong road player 8 ahead on the box and you won the flip and ran out the set. Next set he wins and the cueball gets kicked in and once again you run out the set. I heard it from a reliable source but it was a long time ago I heard it. I may have confused the details. Did you ever match up with "the jeweler"

maybe

I heard a story from our room owner Paul Schofield about him, but wanna confirm it with him first...so if you see this Gary, please IM me about it so I know if its even true. its kinda interesting to me, cause depending on the situation, I might do the same thing! lmao

The Bushwhacker came through Arlington VA and, though I don't know who/ what/ where, put something on those people that was talked about for a long time...

I hope The Man tells a tale or 2 for us!

I don't know how good a story this is, but I brought a good player from southwest Michigan to Battle Creek to play him in the early 70's. The player I took was a legitimate 100 ball runner in straight pool. They played 9 ball on a bar box and the player I took up there got barbequed. Mr. Nolan drank shots of whiskey the whole time. I avoided the rail and played pinball the whole time. :D The guy I took wanted action and I'd have to say he got it.

Way back in the summer of 2006, I played him some games of 9 ball. It was pretty much me watching him break and run out for about an hour. Not a very exciting story :)

He's a great guy though, a true gentleman. Still has a damn fine game. If I see him this week, I'll point him this direction.

Back when i was about 17 me and a buddy went to the starchers tournament in akron ohio and i played gary in the tourny well i watched him play while i racked he was a pleasure to watch though. About 11yrs later i played in a tourny and in the calcutta the director yelled out gary nolan and no one was bidding and i got him for 20 bucks only to find out later that it was a guy named gary bowen! I heard wrong and did'nt remember what he looked so i thought i had got a great deal. Nowadays i pay more attention.
