I've been talking to a gentleman by the name of Howard Akita. He mentioned that he has worked with some top players from around the country. Can anyone offer any more information on Howard.

Howard Ikeda is the correct spelling. Tell him Jay says Hello. I guess I know all the old road dogs. He must be over 60 by now. God bless him. Howard was a good player and an excellent money player. Probably still is.

Where do old pool players go? They just fade away.

Howard is capable of playing some top speed if he puts in any time on the table. Plays hard for the money. Played Jimmy Reid years ago head up one pocket, tough match but I believe Howard got the cash.

Tell Howard, JoeyA, Buff and the crew said hello.

Next time Creole Freddie stops in, I will ask him if he has any stories about Howard.:)
I have not seen him in a couple weeks.:(

A couple of years ago Howard showed up in Houston and I didn't really recognize him at first. He was living in Houston and working with cue maker Anne Mayes.

The tournament was about to begin and I asked Howard if he were going to play and he just looked at me rather blankly and said, "no, it sounds like fun, but I haven't even hit a ball in months." Standing next to Annes booth, Howard reached over, grabbed a cue, shalked and threw 15 balls out on the 9 ft table and began shooting while talking with me about years past.

The 15 minutes I talked with him, Howard never missed a ball and looked so relaxed and natural.

As I walked away, it just struck me that some are just born with natural gifts while others fight and grind just to be competitive. Howard is one of the naturals.

Sadly, I feel Jay nailed it, most of the old Xcuffs just fade away. There are few rewards for the old time Scuffler. Maybe the rewards just aren't that important.?!
