I'm just wondering how many Pool Clubs there are around.

It could be a Billiard Club Public or Private but what I am interested in is Clubs where you have a Pool Club and you meet at a place and play. If there are such things how is yours handled? What do you do? Is there a tournament component?

I have entertained the notion but in our rural area there is not enough interest to get one going. The cost of a monthly membership is usually the greatest obstacle. The monthly nut you have to crack to keep the doors open is usually to large for a smaller community. In a town like Chicago or LA I could see where it would be feasable. I have 2 nine foot Diamond Pro Ams and bar box in my man cave and am planning to add a Gabriel, heated bed, Billiard table.
I am fortunate to have a small handful of friends to get together with, usually one at a time due to conflicting schedules. I am trying to find a time we can agree on a time for a one pocket tourney. There are advantages to a big town. I did not think I would ever think that.

Bossman,
I agree there are some advantages to being in a larger town for pool. I live 20 minutes from anywhere there is a pool table so pool is a thing I do a lot of when I go. Im looking into the Billiard Club Concept as a way to promote pool during the day for some of us who don't want to stay out all night. I think it might promote some competition among the rooms but most of them don't open around here until 4pm. So if you don't live local to the pool room you might choose not to go especially if you have to travel.

I think clubs would be a good way to create grassroots support for pool and a lot of good things could come out of them. I like to see all the games played and I think that's a way to do it.

I live in a retirement community with at least 12 tables that I know of, within a few blocks. We have been trying to get a rotating game going for a couple of years now, The couple us that are willing to host games have plenty of interested parties show up. But they never host their own games. Cheap bastards.

Next year the social center should open with some tables and we will see what happens.

Clubs

Well I am a member of a pool club. It is the Illinois Billiards Club. It is a restaurant and billiards/pool club. Only members and their guest can play. Dinner parties can be booked there with guests allowed to play pool as well. Members join primarily to be part of the straight pool and 3 cushion leagues. It is a very relaxing place to play pool or billiards. There is an annual fee for membership. You also pay for table time and league play. I think it is a very unusual setup but it seems to work, Jim the owner has done this for many years. He is a great manager of the place and seems to do everything. He loves people and pool. I am sure you are not going to find too many places like this and it is not for everyone.

+1 here! Bossman69 has the perfect playing environment, and I 've been fortunate to be able to play there many times. Many posters here have their own table, and some even have more than one. It's great when someone has the ability to put together any kind of local club.

Sadly, there are no poolrooms without driving at least an hour in the area Bossman69 is from (MI). I just moved from there. Luckily I have a nice room 5 minutes away from where I live now. :D

Wow that's major issue there. Its good that Bossman feels like he does about pool. Ive been thinking about how to go about creating a template for a Billiard Club that would work.

Im thinking.... Key Club..... if you can find enough interested parties. You would have to have a low rent and heat on demand for example some kind of electric heater.

I think you could get the rent paid on the right size place but the initial investment you might not ever get it back but if this type of setup were to work, this might work for rural areas.

Pool Clubs

What I see is that Players need only a small amount of organization too much and it becomes a burden.

So what I think I have forming in my mind are Pool Clubs where people out of one room form clubs that meet weekly and play all disciplines or whatever disciplines they like to play.

Then the club from this room, plays someone from another room in a particular discipline and depending on who wins they get to take the trophy back to their home pool room for a period of time then another challenge could be issued.

I think organizing pool is great for leagues and such but their are a lot of good amateur players that are falling through the cracks because 1 they have a life and don't want to be up all night and 2 really don't want to have to be anywhere for league night all the time because they might have a job or something that gets in the way.

I think the Pool Club concept might work for certain groups of people who might want to meet on Saturdays or Sundays to play and from time to time competition.

How does that sound?

Will you move to like within 45 minutes of me please? P.S. bring tables too!;)

I wouldn't call it a club exactly, but I play One Pocket with a bunch of has-beens who never were in the first place.

Thanks for sharing, that's one cool setup. I like to see something upscale like this, shows a great respect for the game...awesome.
