Anyone near Golden, CO., looking for practice in my game room?

Hi all -- I'm a recovering stroke victim trying to rebuild his game after many years of neglect. For the past year I've been practicing on my home table and I'm pleased with the results. Still, I need competition, preferably with players better than I.

I've searched far and wide and can't find a good old-fashioned pool room with a core group of players. The old Family Fun Center is a sad shell of its once seedy greatness, a place I watched a young Buddy Hall when he was traveling incognito in the 60s. Many other roadies passed through during the '60s, but that scene has disappeared.

I don't play leagues, so I have no idea what my rating would be. In my youth I could string together a couple racks of nine-ball or eight-ball and maybe a few dozen in straight pool. My big strength was my break -- now it's a weakness. And my one-pocket skills are minimal but I'm fascinated by the game.

My room features a fully stocked bar, a nice TV with cable and a stellar sound system. Drinks are on the house during happy hour, which runs 24/7/365.

I'm after the competition, not gambling, not getting laid or any other ulterior motive. My wife approves so long as I keep decent hours (midnight curfew).
If you're looking for competition and can stand a guy with strong political opinions (I'm a lefty, but you need not be), contact me by PM or respond to the thread. Thanks.

If you're willing to travel a little bit to the Thornton or North Denver vicinity, the Colorado Cue Club and Hank's Billiards offer good competition.

Also check out the following link to the Colorado Cue Times for local events and news: http://www.cuetimes.com/

I think Hank's is the former FFC. Not what it was, but it is still open and OK. I made it there last summer when I was in town and everywhere else was closed it seemed like. Is there a billiard table left in town? I have not been to the CCC. Maybe next time in town.

PS. 9 Ball Paul clear some PM space.

One Billiard Table to my knowledge, Table Steaks South. It's sad but true.

Hank's used to be Paradise Billiards.

Table Steaks South in Cinderella City is another popular hangout for stronger players.

I think Paradise was the room at 38th and Sheridan that followed FFC. In any event I think we are all speaking of 38th and Sheridan. FFC was a classic name since it was a nice enough room and all, but I didn't see that many families in the golf game or playing 3C.

JPB...Absolutely right! Family Fun Center didn't have "families"...except for the large 'pool' family in Denver. There was action in there much of the time, especially late at night! :D

I'll let toss you a pm the next time I'm up in Golden. I have a bunch of friends at Mines so I spend some time up there. In fact, one of my friends who lives up there was a junior national Russian pyramid champ from Kazakhstan.

I'm thinking late '60s, Andy Hudson vs. Billy Stroud, or maybe Tony Cheese squaring off with Freddy the Jap. Those were the days, my friend.

Paul,
I was born and raised in Golden. Play as a 7 in the APA. I would love to get together and shoot. I'm looking to improve as well.

PM Sent.
