Anyone notice the quality of major brands of tips going down?

It's long been said that it's much harder to find a good triangle or lepro than it was decades ago...but layered tips seemed to largely fix the inconsistency. I recently bought a g2 soft and it was harder and worse quality than the g2 medium that I cut off to replace. I also bought a tiger sniper to put on a different shaft, a cynergy, after experimenting with various combinations, and it was hard as a rock...nothing like the many other snipers that I've tried over many years. It was amazing how much more resistant it was to sanding and shaping. I bought these tips from two different, reputable, authorized stores. I've personally installed by hand over 100 tips over the years for myself and others so it's not a newbie opinion. Is anyone else running into this issue lately?

Not really. I have always used Triangles and while I’ve heard others complain of issues with them I haven’t noticed a difference. I always buy the 14MM and press them before I install and cut them down and perhaps the pressing procedure alleviates the issues others are having. 🤷🏻‍♂️

I haven't been playing lately but used a friend's cue while I was visiting AZ last week.
It had a Lepro on it and it was fantastic. I have heard they are hit or miss but that one was a hit.
I use duds exclusively and I imagine that is why I never got a bad tip.
The guys who press know which ones to keep and which ones to pitch after the initial soak.

Yes, i go through a lot of tips, i seam to be very unlucky lately. The most i will spend is $23 on single tip. Which is more than enough.and Some where inbetween that I'm happy to try anything.
I like lepro or triangles, and you might get lucky with one. I find tiger tips are very good, if you buy from the everest brand. And go up in price. The cheaper ones like, emerald, dynamite not so good.
my last Moori, was not so good. But the one i had before that, played great.
Thomas tips also, a bit like that, but again the first one played great, and the next one, not very good.
Thoroughbred are really good as well
Consistency is always what i try and look for in tips. But not something i often find.

If you are looking purely for feel, a single layer tip like a good lepro or triangle on a conventional, solid maple shaft is the best and I don't even think it's subjective. Layered tips hold chalk better and are subsequently less prone to miscues, keep their shape better, and are more consistent and I don't think that's subjective either. Not sure why I've had bad luck lately but it's obvious that the people posting in this thread at least, are not experiencing the same and I appreciate the input. As for triangles and lepros, my experience is that a box 20 years ago was much better overall on average than a box today. If you look at the grain of the leather, it's just crap comparatively and often plays and feels like such.
