I want to word this carefully :D

I know there are many of products for shaft care. I'm wondering if anyone uses any wax on the butt, like furniture polish or automotive type wax.

I do . I use Meguiars carnauba paste car wax. Don't know about putting it
On a high dollar custom, but use it on my schon and joss cues.

That's what I was thinking of using. Thanks

No problem on the clear-coated section of a cue butt as long as the finish is not too fresh, otherwise it can delay the outgassing of solvents that may still be present.

Be sure to use a wax that contains no silicons as they have a potential to cause problems if the cue ever needs a refinish.

Also, keep the wax off linen as it will just attract dirt, chalk and other grime.

Ok thanks.

I figured the wax would help protect it from minor scratches. I have made my Carmeli my player I would like to keep it from looking like one as long as possible. Without being obsessive about it of course.

I use Butcher's Bowling Alley wax on both shafts and butts. It's a cleaning wax so it does a great job on my shafts.

Mother Gold pure Carnauba wax. Some of the other wax's have silicone in them, which you don't want on the finish.

I put some on a break cue for a woman the other night and told her, "That'll add a couple of miles per hour to your break shot."

She and I laughed at that, but then I got to thinking about it, am I right? Can a slicker cue add to breaking speed?

I use some, but usually no need for it as it does not get any wear on it like a shaft does. Maybe once a year.

Gibson guitar makes a great wax/polish for their guitars works on cues also only $10

I don't use wax but on occasion, will use a cheap AutoMotive paste.

Not only will it polish, but it will take out minor scratches and haze. When I cut a phenolic collar or butt cap, it will polish that back up like nobodies business.

It doesn't break the bank either and as par usual with me and my memory, I can't remember the name of it at the moment. I can look in the shop if anyone is interested.

Jeff -

The answer is yes.

I had a college professor ask "Would a rail road rail deflect when an ant crawls across it?" I replied, "No". He then asked would it deflect if two ants crawled across it. Again, I replied "No". (He had me and he knew it)

He then asked if he had a rail road car full of ants, would the rail deflect. I replied, "Of course". He then noted that I conseded somewhere between 2-and a rail road car load of ants, is a magical number in which it deflects.

Of course the class had a laugh at my expense. But he made an impression that I never forgot. Yes it even deflected at 1 ant, just because you couldnt measure it, didnt mean it didnt happen.

So now back to your point, yes breaking speed improves.
