Anyone tried a "wooden" tip for breaking?

Wood is not as hard as phenolic. Harder than leather. Roughs up.
Bad idea? Would it work? Thoughts...

Bad idea...it would crack.

Actually, there are some wood species that are so hard that its a real pain to cut on a table saw even using a saw blade with carbide teeth. Lignum Vitae would never crack being used as a cue tip.

I think leather is always the best way to go. They put leather on the end of a cue over a hundred years ago to prevent miscues. I'm not sure why anyone would go back to 1900 for tip advice. I'll even go so far as to say, I think phenolic tips are a gimmick. I used one for several months and thought it was total crap. Of course, that's just my opinion. I know plenty of others, including friends of mine, who would disagree with me.

True, but it's also a self lubricating wood, not something I would want in a tip. If you want something that hard to break with, I would stick with phenolic.
