Anyone USE Kava Kava (herb)? It seems like it may help pool.

A friend of mine started using Kava Kava while playing pool and swears by it. So i went to the Health Food store to get a fact sheet on it and i learned some pretty interesting stuff.

here is an excerpt.

'Kava is used for Anxiety and Insomnia, also for nervouseness, stress, and restlessness. Kava-lactones may have anti-anxiety, analgesic (pain relieving), and muscle relaxing, and anticonvulsant effects. Studies suggest the kava directly influences the limbic system, the ancient part of the brain associated with emotions and other brain activites. Kava improves mental functioning and mood and is not addictive.'

Research has also shown that 3 100-mg doses of 70 percent kava-lactones content can be as effective as the drug Serax (oxazepam).

March 25, 2002 the FDA wared consumers that kava may be linked to serious liver injury. Reading a little further into this it seems that this is only the case when you take more than the recommended dosages. At 10 times the recommended dosage, consumed for many months, some heavy drinkers of Kava root in the Polynesian islands have developed scaly eruption or yellowing of the skin associated with muscle spasms, biochemical abnormalties, vision disturbances, and even shortness of breath.

This seems like a fairly safe Beta-Blocker type drug that could be used to improve pol playing.

I'm waiting for all you anti-drug people to jump on me for thinking of using a natural herb/vitamin to improve my pool game, so i also ask. Does this type of thing conflict with your own personal morals.

Read the fine print. Dave Chapell says it also causes " Mud Butt ".
Purdman :D

Yeah i read something about that. There is a bunch side affects related to your liver that i didn't list, but when was the last time your read about any drug or vitamin that didn't have diareah, drowsiness, headaches etc etc. I think when the FDA makes every single drug company list the side effects it kinda makes it seem like every drug out there has the same side effects, negating the warning in the first place.

Actually i wasn't thinking of a daily dosage type thing. In talking to my friend you can take it an hour before you have to play and achieve the same results. Kinda like a take it as you need it.

Still...that is the only thing...there have been no long term studies with what taking herbs will do to you in the future...side effects aside, at least in depth studies have been completed to warn us of what standard medications have on our bodies.

Plus I am glad you recognize this could be construed as the same thing as taking drugs to enhance your performance. I would have to say yes, unless you had an Axis I diagnosis...such as an anxiety disorder.

Just stick to the old, cocaine for long money sessions and few soma or valium when you need to come down. Does the trick everytime. And will promise your a broke burn out by age 40.

:D

ive tried something similar.....its in the kava kava family.........called nokkie nookie. Made me feel better but my pool seemed the same....although i didnt care as much

I know stuff about kava, but i will probably never try it. The most i ever do during pool is ginseng extract. I keep a bottle or 2 with me if i know im going to play for a long time and once im too tired, i'll go for it. The bottle i have in my bag has been in there for probably a month now. Personally, real experiance is better than anything else. If you think itll work, then go for it! Try it out and see. The problem with herbs is that they dont always work for everyone.

I dont know about kava kava but nookie nookie made my game suffer.

Go here to Health Facts and Fears:

Note that if you drink or have liver problems, kava is bad.

"Kava's baad...mmm kay...don't do it...it's baad...mmm kay?"

Seriously, I market a product called Stress Relief Complex. It has been clinically tested with a double blind, placebo controlled trial, showing more relaxed, alert and less tense, and more concentration than the other...and NO kava! Works in about 30 minutes. It's for players who want to play relaxed but stay alert, too.

If interested, PM me and I'll send you to my web site.

I hear that one of the side-effects of nookie nookie is that one day you will wake up and half you stuff will be gone...lol. Of course, just like any side-effect, it doesn't happen to everyone and varies in severity.

Then, of course, you find out that your arthritis meds (that were FULLY tested and not rushed through because of the all mighty dollar) caused you to have a stroke.

Supplement

I take a vitamin made by Kroger grocery stores called Fortify. It has like
29 vitamins and minerals plus it is Ginseng. I have noticed an increased clarity of mind, especially when playing Pool. Sort of like you are able to be in a
'zone' almost all the time instead of just every once n awhile.

Ginseng has long been lauded as having benefits for the mind.

Purd,

Chapell Show is one of my favorites.

I like to end my day with John Stewart on the Daily Show. Chapell is a nut. That whole bunch cracks me up. Lightens my load.
