I'm looking for information on the weight of various cue ball types. Red circle. Red triangle. Blue circle. Aramith swirly S logo. etc. Everyone has an opinion about the weights, but I'm wondering if there's some real data out there. I usually play with a red triangle cue ball, and recently was playing with an aramith S logo cue ball. It FELT heavier, but I don't know if that is just my imagination.

thx,

Hi jer9ball,
many years ago when I was the equipment guy for the mens-pro- tour, I weighed and also measured the dia., of the balls you are referring to.
I, for the life of me can not remember which ball was lighter or heavier.
I sort of remember that they were fairly close, within about 2 or 3 grams of each other.
Sorry for no more help. All of my records were lost in a flood here about 18 month's ago.

FL RESPONDS, MAYBE THIS IS why you are no longer the equipment mgr of the tour, sounds like your brain was lost in a flood also. I love it when you post a lot, you show everyone how vast your deep knowledge of the game is and what an expert you are. Let's check out this last great answer, I can't remember, I sort of remember, they were purty fairly close. That's an answer?
I bet that's also your answer where all your paper work went on all the ivory you bought, it was lost in a flood, the dog ate the papers, ah yes indeed.

Here is the answer, the red circle is slightly smaller and therefore weights a tad less than the object balls which is why it draws better. The blue circle is the same size and weight as the centinneals but draws poorly because the finish is poor, its the same as the object balls. The super pro aramith cue ball is the same size and weight of the object balls and draws great because it has the same high finish and polish as they put on their carom balls.

If you don't know the answer, then do waste peoples time coming in and fumbling around like an old senile fool, fool. Go do what you do best, get back on your cue repair thread and bore everyone she yit less. :D

FL - I enjoy your posts, but Blud didn't deserve that! Why are you trying to start something?

I have a digital postal scale, so here is what I get:

OZ GM
5.6 161 red circle (older)
5.7 164 red circle (old, but not as old as the other red)
5.8 167 blue circle (oldest)
5.7 163 no circle Arimeth (newest)
5.9 168 plugged (bar box ball)
5.8 166 1 ball Arimeth
5.9 168 1 ball centennial
5.8 165 9 ball Arimeth
5.9 168 9 ball Centennial

I bought the Centennials in 1998, I bought the red circles at
different times after that (as well as the plugged, which I do not
use much, if ever). I bought the Arimeth green box set last year
around September or so. The blue and red balls are obviously made of
different material and are different color. I have seen posts about
different resins before. I think it was Tom Simpson who posted this
after asking Saluk about it.

Conclusions:
The older, more used red circle weighs less, it's worn, most likely

The newer red circle and the Arimeth weigh pretty close

The blue circle weighs a little more than the other cueballs, but
about the same as the Centennial balls

The Arimeth cueball and ball set weigh about the same

The Arimeth set weighs less than the Centennials

Whether the cueball is lighter than the rack balls may well depend on
which brand of balls you use, and in any case, the differences are
small.

Thanks Frank! Hopefully someone else has some of the other balls for comparison.

FL: You added nothing but crap to this thread. Piss off.

cheers,
jer9ball

Good info about the cue balls. I talked to a worker at albany/hyatt co. years ago and I was told that the different colored circles on the cue balls changed every so often when they came up with a new plastic formula.

I have been saving cue balls for many years and continue to weigh and measure them. Accumilation of over 70, some ivory and snooker and billiard balls ...and when I was out of the country in 1999, on a trip with stuff stored at a friends...the friend had a fight with his wife and they were ALL thrown out!!!...
...also all paperwork, books and among other things...over 800 photos of world tourney players ... in the back rooms and tourney rooms and just hanging out.

Cue Balls

I have a set of centennials from the time that they were re released from Belgium. The cue ball weighs 166.1 grams. The red circle (bca ball) weighs 161.9. The Aramith cue ball from the super pro set weighs 169.1. Hope this helps.

In my experience, the only cueball that I've noticed which draws significantly more or easier than others is the red circle centennial cueball.

I don't like a cueball that draws like a yo-yo. They're too hard to control.

I just weighed my Aramith super pro (red logo) at 5.9 - it actually weighs more than the object balls by a 10th. I also have an old Aramith plain cueball that only weighs 5.6 ounces. There is no difference that I can tell between them as far as draw.

The red circle does not come in a centinneal box, the blue circle does. If you want a hot cue ball use the red circle. If you like a dead cue ball, use the blue cirlce.

You only got half of it, what about the sizes. Who has an industrial guage to measure these? If a cue ball is smaller than the object ball, is that bad, I would think they should be the same size, opinions here please from you experts. ;)

Hey Larry, you didn't answer the FRIGIN question. You said nothing. Find another thread pecker head.

You're right Louie, but FL has invaded, and I don't feel like reading his crap. Hopefully someone else will write in to answer your question also.

What in the hell is that all about, do you bite the head off everyone coming in here. You need to cut back on the coffee you drink. It was a simple question, I'd like to know also, but we won't get the answer with you going off on every one coming in here.

I have a new set of Super Pro Aramith balls with the S logo cue ball and it weighs 5.9 oz. or 168 grams. The numbered balls weigh 6.00 oz. or 170 grams. I also have a new red circle cue ball and it weighs 5.85 ounces or 166 grams. I don't have a blue circle or red triangle cue ball.
