Pardon my ignorance and it has been awhile since I've seen anyone put a hard water buffalo tip on their cue as most players I know are choosing the fancy layered tips like Kamui and others.

I learned how to play pool on regular tips. I remember layered tips were the hottest thing out.

Anyways, to make a long story short....a friend of mine has passed away during COVID, RIP, and he use to swear on hard water buffalo tips. Fast forward this year another friend of mine has this tip on an old cue he uses to break with.

I can't believe the amount of action and accuracy I can get with the hard tips. You can draw and masse contrary to what people say and the cue ball comes off the tip faster than your normal soft and medium tips.

Who was the original company that produces these tips? Are they still around? Are they layered?

"WB" is one brand
another
SUMO"
Bill Stroud installed SUMO tips on his cues, unless requested something different

Way back in the late 1980s , I loaned Cole money against his cues. When we met to redeem his cues the first thing he checked was for a baggie with half a dozen water Buffalo tips. After checking he told me they were made by the original maker of water Buffalo tips and since he had passed they just weren’t the same.
I bought 4 off of eBay and 2 were good the other 2 I would not even install as the defects were obvious.

I tried a couple of water buffalo tips in my usual hardness rating.
I kept getting miss cues even with chalking every time.
I went back to my regular leather tips and miss cues went away.

Thank you for everyone that’s chimed in. I think I’m going to get a handful of them. I googled the names people mentioned and I think I will go this route.

Also I like to know that I’m playing hard because I like my dick hard too!
