APA 9-ball, you get a point per ball?

i wish someone would spot me the the break... against a higher skill level, probably even better than me. either learn park the cue ball, (and ill say it...) soft break, or safety break... i play on one table that is miserably slow, and nothing ever goes in, so i just hit half the (1) ball, it comes up table, and the cue sits behind the rack.

I got in trouble from the league for soft breaking and safety breaking. They used the "as hard as possible with control" clause, and people have seen me crush the rack, so they knew I wasn't hitting them as hard as I could. I got sick of selling racks out to 2s and 3s that can't make anything off their own break, but would hit me for 3-4 balls off my break. I'll give them the balls they make off the break. Most often, I get the rest of the table.

BTW, this is why pool is going nowhere, and will never go anywhere. Too many jerks that need to make themselves feel better by criticizing another player. People like you make me question why I love the game so much. But, you continue being you. I feel sorry for you, because you'll never learn. You already know what does and doesn't work.

Well, if you would have stated the facts about your home tables I might have believed you more. But you know what I think - that only 5% of the people on this forum have heard of tables as tight as you mentioned for the breakers - and ESPECIALLY THAT NOBOBY EVER MAKES A BALL ON THE BREAK in 9 ball. Otherewise, what I stated was true and you even agreed to this when you played elsewhere on normal tables and would not give up the break.

And BTW, people like you remind me of why I love billiards so much - there is a sucker born every minute.....so you think you are hot stuff because you were MVP and Top Gun - ooooohhhh I'm scared. Should I be impressed also?

My dad's bigger than your dad......

Again, you know everything, so I cannot possibly impress you. I could play you, beat you, and you'd still be better than me. Change your name to Fast Eddie. You're the best you've ever seen.

I was reading the rules for handicapping, and I believe they keep score by giving a point per ball, and 2 points for the 9.

A good way to ruin the game it sounds like to me!

I really disagree. I think this is the best way to have the best players win. If I can beat the 6-7 ball ghost, that means that I will often run out to the 6-8 ball depending on where in the rack I start, thus leaving much lesser players 2-3 balls to win the game. I play my neighboors every now and then whom are much worse than me, however, I would say that the night I lost the most games to them was one of the best nights I played. While I ran out a few racks that night, I also ran to the 7 and 8 ball frequently, but eventually got out of line, giving them garbage wins. If you looked at the final score for games at the end of the night, it did not at all show how much I had dominated the table.

Counting games only works well once you have reached a certain level in 9-ball when you consistently run out from the 2 or 3 ball. DOing the APA's ways makes it MUCH easier to fairly handicap the match, and to show how the match really went in the scores.

I will admit I shoot APA 8 and 9 ball. I would rather not break. I'm a 3 in 8 ball and a 4 in 9 ball. My break is fair. If I get a non-slugged rack I can drop a wing ball every time in 9 ball. And I can get at least 1 on an 8 ball break. I hate having no shot on the next ball in 9 ball. Let the guy who broke hook himself and give me ball in hand. I'll clean at least 1/2 the table. In 8 ball if nothing drops I have my choice. I'll take the most advantagious balls for myself.

And yes I shoot higher ranked players. And beat them consistantly. I am good at taking down 5's and 6's. Make a mistake and I'll eat you alive. I can be beaten though. I have a serious problem with any shot with a lot of green. My dominant eye has cornea damage. And I don't see long shots for spit. But get me in close I'm very good.

I do well at not having the break. It works well for me too.

bboxgrinder, that night the SL1 played above her ability, and the SL5 played below his ability. Like with everyone there are peaks and valleys in our individual shooting ability from one night to the next. That particular evening her's was up and his was low.

I knew if her's was up, I'd have a hell of a time getting to the finish line before her. Just as FastJK posted, with the pushout being eliminated if you break, hook yourself and subsequently foul your opponent has a great chance of getting at least a couple balls. If that happens even every other rack, she'd be out before me.

That is the point of a handicapped system. It levels the playing field so you have to play a good game to win, and a lesser player can have a chance if they play a good game. Sounds pretty reasonable to me.

How can you be a 4 in 9ball if you clean at least half the table with BIH?
