Yes, I play(ed) APA, but don't bash me, I'm done.. (will detail the unjustice in another post)... however...

... If my whole team is fed-up with apa and wants to drop out, will we be liable to pay for the whole session if we drop before the 4th week of play?

I seem to remember that we could drop without the obligation if it was before the 4th week, but now I can't find that in the team rules. .... can anyone (who knows) confirm or deny we can drop without oweing?

(lets save the bashing of apa for the other thread that I'll write)

You can drop out any time. You won't get back any money you already put into APA but you won't have to pay anything else. Join a BCAPL team, much better tourney in Vegas each year anyhoo...

Well, I'm already on a BCAPL team ... was just playing both leagues until now.

... this is written in the official apa team manual:

CONCERNING TEAMS THAT DROP OUT
Because it is particularly disruptive to the League for teams to drop out during the session, the following policy will be observed. A team that drops out during a session will be required to pay all past dues, the balance of all dues they would have owed had they completed the session, plus two weeks fees deposit (which will be applied to the final weeks of the session) before they would be allowed to rejoin the League. A player who was on such a team and who wishes to rejoin the League as an individual must first pay his share before being reinstated.

I was thinking there was a period in the beginning of the session that you could drop without this obligation, was just wondering if I was right.

I think the reason for the rule is to keep teams from dropping out in the last few weeks because they have no chance of winning, then joining again the following session. In your case, I'm assuming you will never play APA again? If that's the case, you won't have to repay anything.

The new team manual states you are liable. Most LO's have had it in their bylaws for some time anyway since teams dropping during the session create such a disruption to the rest of the teams.

Curiously, what is the big deal that you can't finish the session? Not like you can't make roster changes if your roster is not working.

If you're not ever going back, I really wouldn't worry about it. I'm pretty sure the APA won't send you to a collection agency.

It seems that this insert only addresses teams that drop out, then want to REJOIN. Since you have no interest in rejoining then it doesn't seem that you owe anything. I would make all of the teammates aware of this policy in case they wanted to rejoin in the future.

Gene, this is not a roster issue. This is a on-priniple issue that I have with our local LO. She will never see another dollar from me for what she did to my team at 9-ball city championships.... long story but I submitted a protest and paid her the $50 protest fee... but that is for another thread

Well, it is certainly good to have principles. I admire you sticking to your guns. On the other hand it is never a good idea to burn bridges unless your enemies are chasing you!

How are payouts done in the bca? Is it according to each player's performance or does it depend on how the team did?

That is true, but she burned the bridge, I can play BCAPL and/or tournaments so there is no reason for me to cross that bridge again. She made a bad decision and will loose at least one team and maybe a whole division over it. ... that's okay, her county has several other divisions so she'll be fine.

They have different tournaments. Singles, Scotch and Team, separate checks for each tourney.

I wouldn't sweat it. I doubt your LO would hire a lawyer to get your league fees. LOL, this really is not a issue.

Justin, WHAT HAPPENED?! I know our LO isn't perfect but she's better than some of the others around here. Did you start another thread about what happened? PM me dude.

alstl...Not all BCAPL leagues are payback leagues. It never ceases to amaze me how many people are so focused on what the payback is, and really don't care about just getting out and having fun being competitive...possibly with a chance to go to Vegas. It's cheap entertainment.

How much $$$ do you get back, paying to go see a movie you didn't like? NONE
How much $$$ do you get back, paying to go see a concert you didn't like? NONE
How much $$$ do you get back, paying to go see an art exhibit, museum exhibit, county/state fair (regardless of whether you enjoyed yourself)? NONE

Sheesh!:(

What I meant was for a session.

Oh, duh, my bad........our local league we pay $5 a week and a $2 greens fee, so they open up the bar boxes. At the end of the year they pay a tiny amount to best player. There is actually no money payed back for placing 1st or 2nd. But, we usually get 1 or 2 shirts for Vegas and our entry to the Vegas National is paid for the team event.
