APA dues to go up by 25% in '09. What do you want for the Extra $5.00?:

For an extra $5, the membership should be good for a full year regardless of when you join.

This idea of new people joining in the fall session and paying $20, and then having to pay another $10 or $15 in January is a complete crock.

ITs been the same for at least ten years

APA yearly dues have been the same for at least a decade. I am not surprised about the increase. I expected it would happen soon.
Only 1 thing on my wish list. Push out rule in 9 ball.

The same people who complain about the the APA increasing their annual dues are probably posting from a laptop computer sitting in a Starbucks drinking a five dollar specialty drink.

Hey, how do you know what I drink. LOL
Just kidding. I am not complaining at all. Like I said, I expected it very soon.

I would like to see some rule changes like 23 to 25 rule, but this won't cost anything. Perhaps the 8 ball league could change the max rating to 8 or 9. I know these 8's and 9's are there. The APA calls these guys super 7's ,but that doesn't mean anything. A 6 playing a super 7 still only get one game on the wire. But again this won't cost anything.
As for a way to justify the increase in cost. How about a way to just upload my scores and sent the weekly does online. I don't like having to pick up the paper work and returning it each week. Even just faxing would be good. On a team with 8 players I would find it hard to believe that at least one person does not have computer.

But that $10 pays for a whole year, while those who have already been playing full time will pay the full $20 (soon to be $25)

Think about it. $25 a year membership breaks down to less than 50 cents a week. Play one less song on the juke box on league night, and you're covered.

It's not the amount at all, it's the stupid way they chisel it out of folks pocket. It's the awkward situation created every January when new twos and threes, who don't even know if they want to play pool at all anyways, are asked to pay extra money they are never told about in September. When I was captain, I just paid the two or three fees myself rather than deal with the whole negative discussion.

If they raise the fee and just say that the person is good for a year from that point forward, fine! The APA knows that most of their new members start in fall and they deliberately set the aniversary date for membership in January so they can double dip on the newbies. It's flat out bull$hit.

No more coaster pool!
Call your pocket.
No more 23 rule.
Choice after the break.
On line everything.
SL2s get paid membership to a bowling league.
Hookers and blow!

Yeah, but give me a break, the laptop is company owned and the drinks are going on the expense account...jeesh.

FWIW, I agree with you, 25% on $20...really isn't that big of an increase when the membership fee has been static for at least the last 12 years (when I first joined)...

Fairly inexpensive for the privilage of playing in a very organized league....SPF=randyg

When was the last time APA had a Dues Raise?

Thanks for the input, and congrats on your 100% winning, Mr. Top Gun. I am currently filling out a cut off sleeve jean jacket with patches, and would rather pay 5 cents than really earn them if you can spare 'em.
Thanks i had a lot of luck, got some good rolls and played well when i got a shot. Sorry i will keep the patches for my collection. After all earning them was part of the fun. I have no bad feelings toward the APA its just not for me and i do hope they do some rule changes for the ones that do play. Good luck

The main thing I would change about the APA is the way handicaps are monitored. I mean simply going by innings and winning percentage is flawed and those things are manipulated. I wish they went deeper and checked out playoff records, and big games. I personally get sick of all the sandbagging that goes on. There are far too many people that when they shoot way above level they are having a "good night". Another rule change Iwould make is that your skill level in 8 and 9 can only be one apart. If someone is good enough to be a 6 in 8, then really no way they can be a 4 in 9, or vise versa.

I've seen worse in other national leagues. A weak APA SL4 can at least match up with a strong SL4. In other leagues like TAP for example, I've seen weak SL4s completely outclassed by strong SL4s. I'm not talking about luck or sandbagging, but well known players within the area who know before the lag what speed each plays at.

Some of you mentioned the move to a national stats page.

This move is actually a blow to some web developers who have designed a template for league web sites with in-depth stats, forums, chat, etc all in a very nice package.

The move to do this at the national level would be done by screwing the developers and stealing their code, it would take away control from local operators, and do nothing but increase adveritising revenue for the national office because all APA members would have to go to a site run by the national office.

If they want to do a national stats page, fine, but don't do it by stealing someone's work and property and jeapordizing livelihoods.
