APA league Frustrations....

If there's one thing I care not to do ever again in my life, it's watch two s/l 2's battle it out for two hours. I'm sorry but I have better things to do with my time (like watching commercials).

That is hysterical. I know the reason why but it never seems to stop fascinating me how a SL6 can play a SL7 and it's over in 20 minutes. Two SL2's play and it goes on forever.

vapoolplayer,
I didn't but meant to thank you for the suggestion. Although I won't be able to run anything I can at least start posing the questions. Maybe that would at least stir up some interest to get one going in or around Boston.

Sir, I cannot tell you how long ago it stopped fascinating me. There were moments when I simply wanted to tell them both to put the cues down and step away from the table FOREVER!

To put it another way: If Hell was your worst day lived over and over for eternity and Heavan your best day lived over and over, Purgatory for me would be watching two s/l 2's battling it out with a committee of s/l 3's as the coach. God help me.

Too funny Jude.
I stopped coaching the 2's and 3's because of the fact that I really don't think they need coaching. I can't remember one incident where the outcome was even close to being successful. I told one of my 3's that instead of timeouts he should take lessons. Thankfully he has thick skin and took it the way it was meant.

So did he take lessons?

No but I didn't really expect him to. Just a night out with the guys for him so I don't blame him, just can't coach him.

Kind of hard to believe but I don't see any leagues in or around Boston. Only one in MA and it's in the western part of the state.

Mad Magee's in Norwood has a house league as I recall where there is a handicap for the whole team not individuals.
It's a bit drive for you, but on Wed Country Club USA in Chelmsford has a non-handicapped league. They say it's limited to C players or lower, but Country Club's standard player is pretty high caliber so a 'C' player for them might be pretty good. Maxamillian's in Tyngsboro which is even further has an unhandicapped 14.1 league Mondays, and unhandicapped 8-ball leagues Tuesday and Wednesday (but the Tuesday is not very good players).
Cue-time has a in-house Thursday night league in Pembroke which has 2 man teams playing 9-ball and 8-ball each match. Interesting format. It has a handicap, but everybody sees each other every week and it's pretty hard to sandbag without a lot of stink being raised. Ask me about it if you see me or if you see PB51 ask him.

Oh well, at least we have a playoff match Monday night. Yippee!

At 12 Ben's by any chance. :D

Hi Steve,

Those are all a little far for me but thank you for the options. Monday we are playing at Renaissance I think. Should be a home match for us. I still haven't made it to Cue-Time but I would love to get there sometime. I have a good friend in Marshfield only a few miles away. Have to check it out one of these nights. Do you happen to know if Donny Hamilton plays there. I think he used to, might have one a tournament or two.

Take care,
Dave

Well we'll see you in New Bedford at the next level. :D

The name sounds familar. Is he a not too tall but strong looking guy? Blond short hair? I think he played in that league one season because they had an odd number of team and asked him to play so they could have an even number. If it is who I think he played pretty sporty.

Hopefully that will be the case. No, that's not Donny. He is about my height, thin, with dark hair and he plays real sporty. Haven't seen him in quite a while but he used to play with Rob Berkeley(RIP) and Bob Presley who both shot lights out. Talk about sandbagging, ask Tony what Bob P's handicap was while on his APA team. Laughable.

If you play APA in my area I have to know who you are. We'll have get together sometime and shoot around. I know what you mean when it comes to racking for Rob. I watched him run the set out in the finals of the best of the best a few years ago. The poor kid never got to the table except to rack for him. Tell Jimmy and Danny B. I said hi on Monday.

I think the last time we played at Renaissance you were talking to Tony. I would have introduced myself, but I was distracted by the plate of ravioli that I was making disappear. :D

I'll have to go and donate to the Tue night tournament one of these days.

Sounds about right. The last time I saw Tony was there. Let me know ahead of time when you will make it and I'll try to be there.

PB, we could face him in New Bedford so keep on letting him think you're nothing but a rackboy. Good ploy!!! :D

No ploy needed. I didn't take the bait. You never know if you're going to get Dave the low 7, or Dave the mediocre 5 so believe me when I say that I take nothing for granted. Hopefully we will face off down there but we still need to get past tonight.

PB, definitely let me know when you will go down for the Tuesday night tournament and I will try to make it. They love my donation as much as the next :-)

Can someone tell me what people like about the APA? I am just interested. I played one year and I liked the race to 7 idea. Other than that there is almost no return on your money. They do have a national championship, but so do other leagues. What do people like? Just interested.
