APA League MVP

Simple question. Why is it that people that play an amatuer " game " think they should be monetarily compensated for their participation ?
They don’t want to be compensated for participation. They want to be rewarded for winning…

There‘s a difference.

I don't think many of the naysayers on here realize that there are no fees paid durinf higher level tournaments. In other words the lo is not deriving any income from runnimg these tournaments.

During tri cups. Our lo arrives 6.00 pm on thursday and stays until 12.00 pm.
Fdiday 6.00 pm intill 12.00 pm.
Saturday .11.00 am until 12.00 pm.
Sunday. 11.00 am until ..usaully over aroumd 7.00 pm.

Ltc 's

Pretty muxh the same hours but ours runs until monday. 7.00 pm until aroumd 12.00 pm . have seen it run later.

So...4-5 days sitting at a pool hall updating brackets. Entering results from matches into the data base ...fillling out scoresheets for the next round ...with new handicaps if needed.. Being called to observe shots...and listenimg to a shit load of whiners complaing about everything.

That wasn't the case here, we most definitely paid for the higher level tournaments (Vegas excluded). I'm not complaining because frankly, our LO's do an amazing job.

That being said, I'm sure they did well pre-covid (if I had to guess they were making somewhere between 50-80K, BUT there are two of them so they are essentially making 25-40k each and that was pre-covid, I know she recently went back to work and has a great job so will is looking to sell the franchise.

Point being - if you're a pool player and want to make a living off of pool it's an option, not a get rich option, but an option none-the-less. If you're a pool player and think this "side gig" will make me a little money then you're wrong. It's not a side gig and it's not enough money.

I have played local leagues in football and raquetball . plus played in 2 national softball leagues playing in tournaments all up and down the eastern U. S winning a few and pretty much finished in the top 3-5 in quite a few and never got a dime in any amateur league.

So you believe an amateur pool player should be compensated for playing pool. You want to make money playing pool...become a pro. There is a difference.

Different games. In many sports/games “professional” is defined as playing for money.

Pool is not one of them.

Most of us don’t play in leagues to make money. Hell nobody does. That’s not to say that a couple of extra bucks at the end of the season isn’t a welcome little reward for those that earn it.

I enjoy the game, One Pocket is game I enjoy most.

My point about leave is you got weekly fees, at end of season.

Would be nice to have something more then a Patch or Trophy.

Maybe some.💰
Never been about the money for me. It's not even me against the opponent. It's me against that table! And, since the APA added singles competition, it's more desirable to me.

Do they have Master's where you live? Is that was singles is?
Yes there is a masters division but it is a three-man team. I'm on the standard five-man team. But that qualifies me to play in any singles tournaments that come up. I just have to meet the minimum number of matches played.

They were talking a year ago about addimg a singles division. I told them i would be the first in line to sign up for it.

Wonder how much league operator pockets❓❓❓❓
I DO NOT CARE!

I hope they make a bundle. As evidenced here, pool players can be the worst examples of whiny so-and-so's ever.

It is not my business to worry about how much they make. They provide me with a service, one that I am willng to contiune paying.

How much does your hero John Tapper get paid, versus all the other people involved with his show?

How much does your plumber make?

How much does your doctor make?

Why do you care? If the product is satisfactory, that is the end result. That is all that needs to be considered.

STOP WORRYING ABOUT OTHER PEOPLE'S MONEY.

You obviously don't like leagues, why do you participate in league threads?

I am glad the league operators are making money because the leagues would never survive if they weren't making money. I enjoy playing in league because I get to meet all kinds of new people and have fun and learn to play better. Is APA league perfect, No, but for what it is, they do a pretty good job.

PS -- In my apa territory we don't have to pay anything to play in Tri-cup or city world qualifiers. Teams that do well in those tournaments actually win money (even if you didn't win).

It's a 1099 that you get not a W2. BTDT
That's it!!!!! Thank you. I drew a blank when I was trying to remember what that form was so that I could share my good fortune with the government. I'm sure they will return the favor and share some money with me if I enter 20 tournaments this year and I don't cash. I wonder what that form would be??? :) :) :)

I don't think they return the favor. They just send you a rainbow trout patch

Look... I got another trophy!
I wish AZ gave out patches like the APA does.🙄😏

Roger, so no singles league nights, just in tournaments, that makes sense.

I played a session in a league and was top shooter and got my picture in the local billiard newspaper.
I also got a nice wall plaque and $75.00
Then I played in another league and wanted to be top shooter,I played some nights not feeling well just not to fall behind on points.
I was top shooter and got $20.00. No plaque or pin.
Never played feeling off again.

Well honestly pins, patches, and trophies do not get me warm, and fuzzy.

You like pins, patches, and trophies good for you.

Maybe you have a trophy case in your home to show off your ribbons, pins, and trolphies. Maybe the APA Should do a partisipation trophy annually, for millinals to get jazzed over.
