APA league operator issues

Played for 6 years and quit because the exact same thing happened the last 5 years in a row.

Pool Net Handicapping & TAP have a unique double red flag system to automatically DQs underrated players. It's a state of the art handicapping system which is now combined with mobile device scoring,

RunOut,

It's killing me. Where are the tables in your photo. Not Rum Runners. Not Putters. Aces and Ales? Not a familiar set up.

I played three matches in the APA and got raised so high my team couldn't use me any more. That's how it works. You play good, they raise your handicap.

Another guy asked me to join his team as his "hidden player" - I was supposed to dump all my games until the playoffs. Yea that sounded real fun, spend a few hours a week in a smoke filled pool hall trying to lose.

The APA isn't everybody's cup of tea.

There is obviously a point where the APA isn't gonna work for players of a certain ability. Those of you who are that good probably need to be playing in another league system.

There is one guy in our area that can't play 9-ball, cuz he would be SL9 and no team seems to able to work with that. (We do have two SL8's currently.) He does play 8-ball as SL7 occasionally, but its frustrating for him to deal with the level of play, I'm sure.

I totally understand how you would be frustrated by it. It certainly seems geared toward the less skilled player. For us, the system works pretty well. (Assuming people involved aren't messing with stuff, of course.)

Why have this arbitrary rule that if X numbers of players get raised your team gets DQ'd? Shouldn't the handicap take care of skill levels?

I think the bigger problem is the APA ranks players within skill levels, for example (4.0-4.9). They treat all the different people as a generic 4 level. If a 4.9 player jumps to a 5.0, that isn't really a huge jump in improvement. Border line players could just as easily drop down as go up in the city tourney. If you had 3 players that were on the cusp of improving their rank by .1 why on earth would the team be penalized for that.

If a player jumped up by 1.1 that would be a different story.

So are you thinking that maybe they should expand the S/L range? Like instead of from from 2 to 7, maybe like 2 to 10 or 11?

No, but it doesn't seem right to me to DQ a team because 3 players jumped up in skill level where its only a small incremental jump in the normal course of the handicap system. Where you might have another team which didn't have any players jump up in skill level but in the tournament they moved up more points within their current skill levels then the other team.

In general I'm in favor of a simplified system to establish handicaps. Innings should never be used. Defense either. Wins & Losses is the only true way to handicap. Weight meaningful matches heavier (playoffs/tournaments).

You are still not understanding what your L.O. is telling you. When you get to the City Tournament you will be presented with your team members handicaps. You have the option before the tournament starts to raise the handicap on anyone on your team. You can even have your L.O. raise someone's handicap before you even get there.

Since you have been warned of the impending handicap bump, I would highly suggest you raise at least one of your players handicap up 1 SL to avoid the DQ. Pick the player that's skill level is the highest above their current SL so that they will have the best chance to win verses the other two players.

I've had to do the same thing several times before the city tournament and it didn't make any difference in our finish.

They don't won't to try to understand they just want to hear it their way. He said and she said and bob said and this guy told me about it and i never have played in league but i know how it all works bs.

What you will find out from my experiance is St. Louis will always side with LO because they have bought that franchise and will always back the LO. I play in Ky. and we have a arrogant LO that has about ruined our league. We used to be at 60 teams and now down under 30 and dropping. League operator has raised 5 members on my team and they have not shot their way up either. His former team that he played on until he bought the league finished dead last in league and 4 players dropped down and they qualified easy for City Tourney and I would say they have a good chance of going to Vegas as he has dropped down all his old team mates. Called St. Louis but they back him no matter what. Currently playing Pioneer and NAPA and will not miss APA and crooked LO at all.
