Going to the APA Nationals this week. Please, hold your applause...our team didn't qualify. I got tired of missing the cut and decided to go out for a long weekend and play in the Mini Mania events. This is the first time attending this event. It will be interesting to see how it compares to the Super Billiards Expo.... Just shipped my cues out today so that I don't need to deal with baggage claims at the airport, too.

Any advice/suggestions from those who have attended the event before?

Suggestions on good pool rooms in the Las Vegas area?

Thanks!

They, (at the BCA or APA events), have always had a free shuttle service by the side door, (where the artistic pool is played), going to Las Vegas Cue Club.

Lots of action and tables to practice on there. 24/7

Beware of Sandbaggers. Since they do the Minis and they are open to all APA members it's a MAGNET for sandbaggers. I am an APA 9 in 9-ball and I saw guys there playing as 4s and 5s that give me weight when we gamble.

That's my only gripe with the minis. My friends were snapping them off left and right because they were underrated.

I think that they enforce a dress code for the minis as well but i am not sure - so find out so you don't have to forfeit a match.

No other advice - wait, one more thing - don't try to play and gamble with a foot long margarita hanging from your neck, it's an expensive hobby. :-)

I hate those sandbaggers!! I went out for 9-ball in 05, at the time I was a SL5 and I got raped by a 2...It was pretty bad, 17-3 I think:rolleyes:

Thanks for the advice on the sandbagging. I don't know how to avoid that, though. I don't know if they have always operated like this, but this year has the Minis broken into skill ranges. I am an SL7, so I am forced to play in a 6-7 only bracket...except for the few and rare All Levels events. I think there is only one like that during my time there, though.

Anyhow, since only 6's and 7's will be my competition...maybe all the sandbaggers are playing as 4's and I will be safe? :D

Oh...are there any vendors/repairmen in attendance?

Might I ask how you came up with your clever name?

So obvious it's clever, no? I just went with the so obvious it's overlooked option. I figure it sums my hobby/passion up nicely.
