APA on Easter Sunday

He did place the blame in the right place, as the APA could take a stance on this
and they don't. They (the APA) by not taking a stance, condone it.

Gosh, the more I read about APA the more I think the players are the problem. Get the team captains together, take a vote, majority wins, tell the LO we are taking these days off during the year do not schedule league on those dates...

IF he balks, then the spokesperson for your group says then we will quit, and start our own in house league, make our own rules, run it ourselves and keep ALL the money for the players like many other leagues do, and that have state and Nat'l tourneys without the need to qualify other than pay your entrance fee.

And bam, you're done, you get the days off.... not rocket science really.

Exactly. Talk to your LO and arrange to not play on important holidays. Or talk to your opposing captain and reschedule your match. It's really not that big a deal.

See post # 6.

Rescheduling actually can be a big deal. In my experiences of rescheduling matches (and there were many), I almost always found that the nights (or days) suitable for getting my team there was NOT suitable for the other teams. It invariably came down to a date where both teams had at least two players short of a full roster...sometimes more. When you're the captain of 3 different teams, it can get problematic...especially when the only holiday the LO in my area wouldn't schedule matches on was the 4th of July.

I remember in the years I did this, making numerous phone calls haggling about which night we were going to make the rescheduled match up on. There are a lot of players on teams that play leagues on multiple nights, thus causing most of the rescheduling problems. I would want to make a match up on Friday night, because I could get 6 of my players there that night (but the opposing captain could not).....he'd want to reschedule for a Sunday afternoon because he could get 6 or 7 of his players there then (but I could not). So, settling on an agreeable date got more complicated than you think it could.

Like I said.....it's like trying to pull teeth.....much resistance!!!

Interesting. We never shoot on holidays and in our small division we simply shoot two days before or after the holiday should it interfere with player schedules.

After all, it's just a week of pool. If you could coordinate an effort over a greater period of time than 1-2 weeks before a match and organize all of the teams to refuse to play, refuse to pay and take zero points for the week then you've solved the problem with your LO.

There really isn't a strong argument that league dues should be paid if none of the teams played and there is no paperwork to process.

Apa is the only business where the owner treats you like you need them and not the other way around. It is the league operator and not the Apa in this instance. They can shut it down if they want to. Our local Apa just had a big meeting. I didn't go because I knew they would be talking at the players instead of to them. Everyone was pissed because someone asked if they could go back to having a few weeks off in between sessions just to get a break. They stopped the meeting, walked out and wouldn't answer any more questions lol all the players were pissed. Stop playing!! Lol they need you to pay there bills like any business ... Not the other way around! They'll get the hint when the revenue stops rolling in haha

On Sundays I have an afternoon APA league and an evening straight pool league. At first we were supposed to play on Easter Sunday. Being Jewish I didn't mind. But then the L.O. found out the pool room would be closed on Easter Sunday. We rescheduled it to Saturday night and even had a few makeups. I was disappointed that my straight pool league was cancelled for Easter. To make it worse it's cancelled two weeks in a row as the poolroom is sponsoring the Joss Tour next week!!

From day #1, I have never seen something as twisted and corrupted as the apa.

In my first session, we were in our league challenge of champions. The sl's came out, and our 7 couldn't play because our lowest sl with him would be 24. So he calls the LO (he wasn't even our captain) and basically gets him to lower one of the players sl from a 4 to a 3. I don't blame my teammate, but the fact that the LO did this, just made me wonder.

To me, this is not serious issue, but definitely an indicator on how things work. There have been a lot more serious issues that our LO has just basically lied to cover up...but I should have learned from that incident this is the american puppet association.

But I keep playing, so really I have only myself to blame...

Wow! Now that's some seriously messed up stuff. I'm fairly certain that LOs are not supposed to do that sort of thing. Then again, it's a business and a business owner needs to make decisions that are good for their business.

Bummer.

When we have to reschedule Sunday evening matches, we typically play them a week or two before / after earlier on a Sunday afternoon. Makes for a long day but it works. A few of the locations have multiple teams so sometimes we get lucky and both teams happen to play their matches at the same location and we can play the make-up simultaneously. Those are pretty rare.

Do your players want the entire day off or just time off for dinner? If it's the latter, have you considered playing your match earlier in the day?

A lot of the major holidays many of them were going out-of-town. The rest of them were just totally adverse to playing league on a holiday.
