apa question

apa question of the week! A player who broke her shoulder a few months back came back to play and was playing right and left handed. She's an apa 2 and trust me she isn't sand bagging lol but her shoulder hurt her to much to play all night. She was told by the apa operators that playing with both left and righty is against the rules and they she has to pick one or the other or be disqualified? Big surprise..no one can seem to find it in the rules

On another fun note we got screwed in 9 bal tri-cups by two players getting raised when we were already short players causing us to forfeit. Get to leagues last night and surprise surprise they lowered them both back to there other number. The increase didn't make sense..they won close matches and the decrease doesn't make any because they won and lost close matches after increased lol

Maybe they were upset because after them insisting that the great equalizer system made every match even a friend who only played apa for a short time in the past questioned why they needed the 23 rule. I mean if every match is equal then I should be able to have 5 9's and it shouldn't matter.. The only reason I can see to have the 23 rule is to force teams to break up and get new players for the league ? lol I guess that struck a nerve

There can't possibly be a rule, even in the APA rules, that state you can't switch hands while playing. What about when you can shoot well opposite handed and you do so to avoid using the bridge to reach shots? Happens all the time.

They may as well have a rule that you can't look at the table with one eye shut to look if a ball passes or you can see the edge of a ball to hit it.

Whoever is the league operator that made up that rule is a moron. I hope this was not actually enforced, especially since it was not in the rules.

Same thing happened to us. We had a SL5 go up to a 6 overnight after beating a SL2 on Saturday! This caused problems and it shouldn't have happened. Especially the way he's been playing lately. The reason why your league scoresheet had your players at their previous skill levels is because the official scoresheets that get mailed to the team captain were sent before the tri-cups. Should catch up by next week.

Also, I shoot lefty every so often rather than using a bridge. Don't think there is a rule against it.

I have one word for you. USAPL.
Played by real rules, no marking pockets for a ball 1 inch from the hole, played by "real" pool rules aside from the handicaps, which go from I think 30 to 125 instead of just to 7 or 9. If it's a called shot league (like the 10 ball Masters league) no one *****es if you don't call every shot if it's obvious (even combos and banks). You can have two top ranked players that are a level apart in the APA, in the USAPL you can have an A as a 125 and a good B would be a 100 or so, so there is still a few game and point spot there.

Not a National Rule by any means!!! However, every APA Operator has the ability to make their own local By Laws that supersede National. If this is indeed the case with this particular LO, this is one case I would take to National because it is ridiculous.

Like Black Cat said, sounds like a goofy local by-law. I'd ask to see it on paper, then go to the national office with it.

Myself,I hate local bylaws for APA. The only reason to have them would be to explain something not defined by the national level rules.Anything extra is dumb, and will just handicap you at Nationals.

Apa Sucks

Trob, I couldn't agree more. Last triceps we had 4 people go up. Now we are having a ton of problems meeting the 23 rule. I am tired of recruiting players because people get a little better over time. Every match is handicapped, so what's the problem. I doubt our team will survive after regionals.

I played lefty one night against a SL6 and still beat him pretty bad. He was pretty steamed I was playing lefty and that was the point.... Sharked em without sharking :)

Did someone file a complaint about her? How did the league operator get involved?

While I don't see an issue with a sl2 switching hands often or playing an entire match opposite handed, I could see it being an issue with anyone higher.

someone complained .. one of the apa no nothings lol why would it be an issue? If there is nothing in there beloved rule book they throw at you then theres nothing they can do. I'm sure they could ban someone from the league for whatever reason they choose... but considering this is a family that has 6 teams going on in apa that might cost them some money. lol an isn't that what apa is REALLY all about lol

Dude... the APA is a pyramid scheme business. You just got a 'cliff note' glimpse at how it really works. The team 'max handicap' sets up the structure to reorganize (bring in new suckers) for the next session. I quit in 96' when our league director (during playoffs -after 15 weeks of payments) walked up to my 5 man team and said "ya'll aren't going to Vegas again... your 4 is a 6 now"... Same crap different region of the country. Pyramid 101

edit... Above the CAPTIAN level ... at the region level and higher.

any bylaws should be posted to your local APA site. Check them. If they do not say anything about playing lefty you can call the national office with a complaint.

if the APA was a pyramid scheme, like so many people on here claim, then team captains would be making a cut of the weekly dues. People need to look up how a pyramid scheme actually works.

With all due respect I don't think you have a clue what a actual pyramid scheme is.

Yeah you're right... I'm clueless

It would be sandbagging issue. Say your player was an SL4 and isn't ambidextrous then playing left handed is not playing to her potential. Most likely if she played this way for an entire session her handicap would drop. Then if your team makes it to the LVQ her shoulder has healed and you have a SL3 that plays like a SL4.

Now you could make the argument to the LO if she shoots with a hurt shoulder it might be just as bad or worse than left handed then see what options they provide.

From Wikipedia:
A pyramid scheme is an unsustainable business model that involves promising participants payment or services, primarily for enrolling other people into the scheme, rather than supplying any real investment or sale of products or services to the public.

I suspect the LO thought she was trying to sandbag by playing lefty.

No lol everyone including the lo knows her well. She's a 2 because she started playing. Trust me they know that lol

I'm a 9. Now if I show up and start shooting left handed I can see there is a problem. Lol the fact remains there is nothing in the rule book saying you must pick lefty or righty and remain that lol
