Hey! I didn't know this was Andrea. Hi! This is Paul who likes it when you bring sandwiches to Dave's tourney :)

What rating committee? I thought the APA ranking determinations were all done by computer. Ooops, I guess I'm getting you started :)

There's a bit of a double standard with females getting a 7 ranking for 8-ball. Before some of the females throw anything at me, let me explain. A girl in our area is ranked 7 in 8b. The majority of her league play was in the women's division. She did also play in the regular league as well. The system used to handicap you is based on your last 20 matches. This girl was unbeatable in the women's league, laying thumpings to whomever she played. However, it was a different story when she matched up against 6s or 7s in the open division. I played her a bunch when she was a 5. She used to win a few matches against me as a 5. When she got bumped to a 6, she couldn't win. Now, she's a 7, and she pretty much knows she's never playing me again until her ranking goes down. This is the one case of a player really getting screwed by the system, due to the definite lack of competition in one of her divisions.

Same type of thing

happens when people go from a normal BCA league to an advanced BCA league. I was talking to a friend of mine last night, and he was telling me how much tougher it is in the advanced league, which I already knew because I played in it.

1girlwon aka Tina Pawloski is a 7 in 8 ball and a 9 in 9 ball in San Diego.

I met Tina in Vegas last year when I was trying to sell my mini tournament tickets. She came up and said Ill take them. I told her they are sl 7 in 8ball and 8-9 in 9ball. She asked how many do you have I will take them all. Have to say I was surprised as I have played in the minis every year and she is the first female rated above a 6 in 8 ball I have met. The 6 was very weak and only seen her once several years ago. Tina seemed very nice and confident.

Here in San Diego, we do not have a separate women's division, everyone plays on mixed teams against each other. I had actually just heard from a couple of friends that there was a ladies division in the team event. I thought it might be fun to put together an all girls team, but even still, we would play against all the other teams, male-female mixed.

I am a 9 in 9 ball, and a 7 in 8 ball playing everyone.

Hey mouse - I do remember you, thanks for the tickets, and the nice compliment! :)

Methinks one of the reasons for not seeing more high rated female players is that most pool players drift away from APA leagues as they advance in skill.

Also there are not a heck of a lot of female pool players to begin with.

As a side note-It seems to me women who are begining players often lose interest in pool more easily then men before the bug gets them.

I agree...there are several female APA sl7's in my area but all have quit playing APA and moved to BCA. I quit playing apa a few years ago when I was a 7 in 8ball and an 8 in 9ball...it became too difficult for all the women I play with to stay under the 23 SL limit. We now plan in open BCA leagues.

I just came across this thread. I am rated a SL7 in the APA. I have only made it to vegas with a team, never singles... I play out of a league in the metro Boston area.
